Pregnant after 35

U/S Question

Since my youngest is 10 yrs old it's been a long time since I've had a "big u/s".  I don't remember ever having to wait for any kind of results but I see a lot of posts that say that the doctor will go over the results at a different appointment.

I don't want to have to wait another week to find out if everything is ok with LO.

What have been your experiences?

Thanks!

Re: U/S Question

  • The person who did my u/s was actually a doctor. So, I had a play by play as she was going through things. I knew things were good when I left. At my dr's appt the next week he didn't really mention anything. I had asked if he looked over my results and he said everything is great.

    This.

Mine was done by a perinatologist and we got the results real time. OB just looked at his report and said all is well.

  • well, a tech did my u/s.  she stated, "everything looks good.  if there were any problems, i would tell you.  i promise."  THEN i had the OB appt immediately after the u/s and was given the results then from the OB.  having said that, our office has a specialist for AMA ladies (i know, i  know) so she also looks over the u/s.  if there are problems, she'll contact you.  i would imagine if there were a serious problem, the tech would grab the OB at that time and go from there.
  • We just had an ultrasound tech do ours, so we didn't get a lot of information, but DH watched her enter the measurements and info into the computer and said she hit "normal" for every measurement, so we felt pretty good.  Then at my next OB appointment, she said everything looked "fine".  I figure no news is good news in that case.
  • Thanks ladies.  I'll just ask when we go if she will let us know if there are any problems.  If she says she can't I'll find out if I have to wait until my next appt to find out.

I'll also have DH watch her like a hawk as she is inputting information! :)

  • I had a tech do the U/S and gave the results to my dr.  My Ob came in shortly after and said that everything looks good.   I have switched Ob's since then and my new ob did the 8 week u/s.  I am assuming she will do the big u/s as well.   I think she will even do a 3-D, we just have to remember to ask.

  • They had me schedule the "Big U/S" with the technician first and then my OB immediately after.

  • It will be a while before I get The Big 20-Week U/S, but my peri will be doing all my u/s from now on, so I'll get real-time feedback.

But, I wanted to tell you -- HOW EXCITING!  The Big U/S!  You must be SO excited!  Do want to know the gender or let it be a surprise?
  • I had mine done at the Peri's office, and had to see a genetic counselor beforehand.  They typically schedule the GC the same day, but I had some scheduling issues and saw the GC a week before the actual u/s.  A tech did the scan, then the peri came in afterwards to review the results and he also gave me the results of my AFP test that I had drawn the previous week at my regular OB.

It's a very exciting appointment - be sure bring some tissues!!!

  • Had my big u/s with my Peri.  His tech did most of it.  She told us what we were seeing as we were seeing it.  I would say that we were with her for a half an hour.  Then the Peri came in and redid some of the measurements and told us everything looked great.  We only saw him for ten minutes or so.

Just a side note... since we are team green, I was so worried we would accidentally see something.  SO not true!  We didn't know what we were looking at half of the time unless they TOLD us.  Then we were like, "Oh, yeah... that does look like a thigh bone."  Fast forward to last Friday's u/s.  With the head down and the butt straight up I *think* I might have seen something.  I hope not, but I might have.
