confession (not juicy)

the reason i have not looked into hardwood floors for my house (we have this horrible shag like carpet everywhere but the entryway, bathrooms, and kitchen/dining room) is because of Poe's hardwood floor saga.

it makes me skeered

Re: confession (not juicy)

  • What is this hardwood floor saga you speak of? I love wood floors.

  • i think (pretty sure) she's on the 3rd install, and i think it's been about a year of work?
  • I don't know of Poe's saga, but we have hard wood in the Family Room and Kitchen (they are one big room) and I love them!

Sounds like a sh!tty install job, no?  Not really a common thing, just make sure you get a reputable contractor.

Check the BBB for complaints, make sure they have insurance.

  • I love our hardwood floors.

In my old house, my ex ripped out the carpeting in the kitchen (seriously, who carpets a kitchen?) and replaced it with hardwood floors.  He did all the work himself, and he's not a handyman by any means.  But it looked great.

  • Hardwood floors suck.

We have hard wood floors in our apartment, now granted it's in an old building with poor/no ventilation, and we have cats but I feel like I spend all my time cleaning these damned floors And they're STILL never clean.

Carpets, vacum them regularly, shampoo every so often and they're amazing. Vacuming takes SO much less time than sweeping AND mopping, not to mention the polishing.

Summary: Carpets rule, hard wood floors drool.
