DD has not stopped crying for the past hour. I cannot get her to stop. This has been happening for 4 days, since she has had a bad diaper rash and diarrhea. I brought it up to the ped today when she went in for her flu shot and he said just put lidocain on it. Well I have been for four days. Has your DC uncontrollably cried because of this? We've tried everything, bathing for long periods of time, airing it out, creams, I feel so bad for her.

Calmoseptine. It's what they use at the hospital when your skin is falling off... from stuff like bedsores or incredible horrible diaper rash from IV antibiotics (that's what Jack needed it for)
It's OTC (no RX necessary) but you do get it from the pharmacy counter... just ask the pharmacist.
It's zinc + menthol... has antifungal and antibacterial properties... it heals and provides a barrier to moisture.
And it feels like heaven... kind of tingly and cool and then numbs.
Bout 10 bucks per tube. Worth about $1000.
I see everyone is recommending zinc based creams...but I have an odd child and maybe you do too haha.
No cream is the only way for Luke's diaper rash to get better once it gets bad, which happens instantly with a runny poop of any kind.
So I do as much diaperless time as possible...and I mean as much as you can. And I give him a 1/4 - 1/2 dose of tylenol (depends on how bad the diaper rash is) to take the edge off of the pain...works wonders. But the more cream I put on him, the longer it takes to go away.
Also don't use wipes, just use warm wet paper towels.

LucyP, I'm a dumbass, he said Lotrimin not lidocain, big difference. We've been using A&D ointment for 4 days now.
Lucy, you can disagree all you want with me, cuz I love ya.
But zinc creams do make rashes worse for some skins. Just sayin' ;-P
C - I thought that was a bit weird you were doing lido for 4 days... I was going to email you about the dangers of heart palps... lol.
I recognize the name H&B gave ya... I'd try that. Poor gal.
Right back atcha D-dub!
And the calmoseptine sounds like a plan (but my plan works too!)
Meantime - the lotrimin is good - the A&D not so much. You need more of a barrier/soother than that. Try the calmo or the Triple Paste (keep using the lotrimin if you go the triple paste route. I do heart Triple Paste - it was the only thing the finally helped us turn the corner after a weeks long battle. Lots of no diaper time too.)
GL!! Update me later! On baby's poor hiney.

Oh God yes - NO WIPES!! I just used baby washcloths and warm water - the wipes are too harsh on diaper rash (and can make it worse.)
Hope she's doing better already!
