I haven't been on as much in awhile due to work and I've also tried to stay away a bit because this whole TTC process was starting to get stressful for me. We are coming upon our 6th cycle and I'm turning 41 soon. I called my OB-GYN to schedule what they called an 'Infertility Consultation' and they cannot see me until the week of Christmas!!!
TWO MONTHS out?!!!? I should have make my appointment with them sooner. I feel like we're prolonging this longer than necessary. If I didn't love my doctor so much I'd switch.
Here's the thing... my insurance does not require referrals to specialists and specialists are the same co-pay as my OB-GYN. Would you try to go straight to an RE and skip the OB-GYN?
I don't know enough about the entire process to know if I should try that directly?
TIA!
Re: My turn to vent a little
I think I would go ahead and call an RE. If they can get you in sooner, it will help you feel less "stuck." If they can't get you in until after, you can always keep your ob-gyn appointment, too.
Good luck with everything!
I am sorry to hear you've been stressed, that's never fun.
My opinion: Go for the RE. They, not the OBGYN, are the fertility experts. So I'd go straight to the experts.
Even my OBGYN friends always say that they know "some" but not all and refer to the RE for anything past the basics.
GL, nice to see you around
I understand your situation b/c mine was similar..I love my ob/gyn...even though she told me to relax it will happen..whatever..I went to the RE without a referral as I am 100% OOP...if you don't need a referral go..keep you ob/gyn updated on the christmas appointment..but go asap.
Some RE's get a new patient in very quickly..good luck and try to leave the stress behind. Each new AF is a new chance..another opportunity for the next cycle!!
hang in there.
Thank you all!!! I'll look up some REs and see if I can get in...
Absolutely get yourself to the RE. I was surprised that it took me only about one week to get an appt. And now I'm already underway with our strategy and feel much better. No sense waiting until Christmas, when your OB will likely refer you to an RE anyway.
I can't remember who said this, but it's true: an OB's job is to delivery babies; an RE's job is to get you pregnant.
