Babies on the Brain

So Tara

Tell me about your labor and delivery.  Was it as you planned/expected?

How about Reagan?  How is she doing?  Any challenges?

Me - I had back labor and it started 5 days before I actually gave birth.  It's needless to say that my natural childbirth plan turned into an epidural and I hugged the doctor when they finally admitted me to the hospital after 3 L&D trips.  It sucked.  DH was saying that we are adopting the next kid.  And now, almost three months later, all is forgotten and I can't wait (in two years) to have another kiddo!

Sawyer is doing well, hitting all his milestones and such.  He strongly prefers his right side, so we have to do some special excercises and see the physical therapist so he doesn't end up with a lopsided head.  He's pretty gassy as well, so it can be challangeing to get him down for the night, but once I do he sleeps great.  Being a Mom is so much better than I could have ever imagined!

  • Right back atcha!
  • Well, I left work about two weeks before she was born. Contractions in the workplace are not fun! People were starting to worry about me and I was distracting them from their jobs. I felt it best to take some time off, I was exhausted!

BH kept on for two weeks, sometimes strong. But, I stayed 50% effaced and not dialated right up until my last appt at 39 weeks. At that point I begged doc to induce. And, he did!

Monday night I was admitted and put on Cervadil. Contractions all night and didn't sleep a wink. Even after they put me on Pitocin and broke my water I wasn't dialating. Reagan's head was getting stuck in the birth canal so they did a c-section at 11:49 p.m. Tuesday.

She's great. Startign to sleep for 5-6 hours at night. Her spit up is a little much, imo. But doc says it's fine. BF is going so well. I also pump at work. I do it at 10am and 2pm, usually. If she misses a feeding I can pump 3 times. It feels like such an accomplishment to pump 5 oz. more than what she eats in a day!

I've been at work since Sept 24th so I feel you on being sad to leave.  It's hard but my husband and Mom trade off babysitting duties. I feel so fortunate that he can spend 2 days with her. He's bonding in a way that most dads don't get to. We are really blessed.

  • Wow.  That is so awesome about your husband getting to be with her 2 days!  And yay for no daycare.  I do not know how other moms do it.  It's hard enough to leave him at home where I know he's in the same place he's always been used to.  It would be so difficult to take him somewhere alien to him and dropping him off!

Sawyer is sleeping more during the night too - somewhere between 5-6 hours.  Isn't it great?

Pumping is just fine and it seems like I am getting enough for him to eat, but we are supplementing a bit here and there when we have to.  I am nervous about traveling in March, but that is still so far away and he'll be eating solids by then!

Oh, and I feel like Sawyer spits up too much also but the pediatrician said that as long as he is growing along his curve then it is okay.  Some feeding he doesn't spit up and some feedings he seems to spit half of it up!  I think as Moms we just worry too much, but I don't know how to stop it.
