What service provider do you have? If you have Verizon after you get them all back (email is a good form like PP suggested) you can bring your phone to the store and ask them to back up all your contacts on their server. Then if you ever get a new phone or anything you can ask them to transfer your contacts and then they put them all on your phone free of charge. Luckily I had this done before I got a new phone so I didnt' have to add 87 contacts when I got my new one.
Yeah, I e-mail or send out messages on FB/Myspace. I'll look at an old bill too if I know I've talked to someone. If it's someone I haven''t talked to in a long time I don't even worry about it.
