i am using one of my sisters (she had triplets so she has 3 cribs) and the matching dresser..i wasn't going to use it at first but then i thought about all the money it would save us and our family..Plus, it is a convertable crib but my sister didn't have room for 3 double beds...
i always feel like the only one on here NOT buying a brand new..Am i alone?
Re: anyone else using a hand me down crib?
at first we were going to use my SIL, but her inlaws gave it away when it was being stored at their house, so we are getting new crib/dresser... but would have gladly taken a hand me down... i'm from a family of 8 so I as very used to them.
Babies are in the cribs for such a short period of time that I am sure it is in great condition and as long as it is recent (like not 40 years old) I would definately go for it

Don't feel bad at all! My sister just gave me her crib, highchair, swing, and car seat! My niece is only 3 yrs old so I feel really good about the quality and newness of it all. I'm so grateful because the savings allowed me to buy and eco-friendly mattress that I really wanted!
Take anything you can get!
Yeah for your sister! If you can save money by using her crib then I would do it! My sil has given us all sorts of wonderful things that I will be using. Her ds is still in his crib so we had to buy our own which is fine but we were able to save a ton because she gave us so much!
The crib at my mother's is a hand me down crib. Still safe and never a recall. Hey, it saved her and I a ton of money!
Ditto this, My niece is 5 and my sister is OCD(quite literally) and the crib is in great condition! We also bought a changer/dresser combo at a garage sale that was in good condition. You are most DEFINATELY not the only one with used/HMD furniture!
Both my kids had hand me down cribs. My DD actually used...mine. Yes, from when I was a baby. Probably not the smartest move, but she survived. The crib, however, did not. We decided to retire it when she moved to the toddler bed b/c it was showing its age.
When DS came along, my sister gave me a crib that was purchased by her MIL to keep at "grandma's house", but was barely used b/c my sister and her DH didn't visit with baby a whole lot. My sister used it for a short time in her own home with her twins, but as soon as they could stand they were crawling out of it and moved to beds. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
As long as it is safe (check for recalls) and not falling apart, there is nothing wrong with a second-hand crib. I would not, however, reuse a mattress--we bought new ones for both kids.
