Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone let their LO use a blanket for nap/bed?

I know this is flameworthy potential.... but LO likes something up against the side of his head when he sleeps.

Suggestions?

Let me add... I have this knitted baby blanket that is super light and seeing that it is knitted it is holey.

Re: Anyone let their LO use a blanket for nap/bed?

  • I do occasionally.. but I don't put it above his belly. I tuck it under him too on both sides so it doesn't go near his face. I only do this if he falls asleep before I get a chance to put his sleep sack on.

  • Same here. I cover DD up to her belly at night.

I think the OP was asking if anyone did this, if not, she's looking for suggestions ;)

Please correct me, if I am wrong.

  • Yes, Mrs. PreK you are correct!  :)
  • I do and have since birth.  Lately since it's been cold, I have him in his night-gown, a sleep sack, a receiving blanket and a loose knitted quilt.  I've NEVER been worried about it because the blankets are TOTALLY breathable.  He also sleeps with a banana shaped pillow cradling his back (he's a side sleeper).

I have walked in on him 2x's with the blankets over his face, but most of the time he kicks them off rather than pulling them up.

  • Considering DS sleeps with us in our bed, yes. He also will scoot up in bed during naps so he has his head against my pillow. He does this every time.

  • DD  loves me to rub her soft blankie on her face until she falls asleep, and then I tuck in in around her tummy
  • Yes, I do! When I first began to BF, DS got attached to holding onto my shirt or something and now he still loves to have blankets in both hands. Instead of using one of those blankets with the chunky animal heads on them (the velour soft ones that people buy), I made my own without the character. So he has that in one hand and a cloth diaper/burp cloth in the other hand. He won't go to bed without them. I have never worried about it either because he moves his head when he is uncomfy. Besides, they are both pretty breathable and I keep an eye on him with the video monitor at night. Also, when both of our sleep sacks are in the wash, I do use a receiving blanket to cover him, but only from about the waist down! He would just push it off if it were to cover him any higher and he's a warm guy! Glad to know I"m not aloneSmile
  • Yup, and have since early on. DS likes to snuggle with something against his face, so we started with the aden & anais blankets but got him one of the plush loveys from Carters to put against his face so there's less chance of suffocation. He has a thicker blanket that we've started using b/c his room is drafty but if he's got that lovey he doesn't pull the blanket up. We also have a video monitor to keep an eye on him with.
  • DS doesn't seem to want anything by his face, but sometimes if he falls asleep before I put his sleepsack on I'll tuck a blanket tightly around his waist.  And then I check on him like every 15 minutes because I'm paranoid!

  • I usually use a sleep sack at night but not for naps during the day. We just cover her with a little blankie for naps and I check on her once in awhile.
  • We have used a blanket for DD from day one. We use a crocheted blanket, which is super holey, and she sleeps with it up against her face. She won't fall asleep without it. She loves to put her fingers through the holes and rub it against her cheek. My mom is super happy that she is so attached to the blanket that she made. Big Smile
  • At night, no.  For naps, yes.  He has a soft blanket he likes to rub his face on.

If we're staying somewhere overnight, I bring the blanket as well since it smells like home, I think it helps him get to sleep in a weird place.

  • We always put DS to sleep with a blanket, but we tuck it in so he can't pull it up near his face. We leave the ends out so he can still grab them, which he does a lot as part of his self-soothing routine. I think if it's a knitted blanket that LO could obviously breathe through it shouldn't be an issue. However, I know DS will push things off his face if he doesn't like them, so my opinion might be different than someone who's LO wouldn't do that.?

  • When we stopped swaddling DS we started draping a crocheted blanket over him instead.

  • It depends on the temp outside and where DS is sleeping. Since he's had a cold he's been sleeping in the swing with a blanket draped over him.

Most nights he's in the PNP with nothing but on super cold nights we tuck a breathable blanket around his waist.

  • Yep, she has had a blanket for quite sometime now.  Since she was an early belly sleeper, she would always just scooch forward and so the blanket was not a harm to her. Now that she is rolling and crawling, she just plays with it while awake!
  • We let DD sleep with a blanket all of the time.  We also use a sleep positioner though and we have never had any problems.
  • What about one of those mini lovies (sp) with the little stuffed animal at the top?
