when was the first time LO was away for a whole day?

DH suggested MIL babysit DD from 8-5 tomorrow. First off, I dislike the MIL...which makes my opinion a tad biased towards her. But that aside, I dont know if Im ready to be away from her for an entire day. If it was my sister, chances are I would let her watch Dd all day no problem.

The pros are we (Dh and I) would get a some really good sleep (assuming Im even able to sleep knowing a troll woman has my baby), and I will be able to get alot done around the house.

So when were you guys able to detach yourselves from LO for a whole day? with your MIL???

My MIL lives in Puerto Rico Stick out tongue lol

But that aside, I'd probably be calling every 15 mins if I actually let my LO be away for a whole day.

I'm kinda the same way... today is my first 1/2 day away from DD, but shes home with DH so I'm not worried. However next Sat my MIL is going to watch DD from 4-10 and I am already dreading that drop off, its going to be hard.... My suggestion is maybe do like 8-2 or a little shorter hours if your not sure.... I had a hard time just leaving DD tonight and shes going to be 2 months old soon :(

The first time for me will be when he goes to daycare on Nov 9, and even then I will probably go spend my lunch break there with him.

We went on our first date last Fri and I dropped him off at MIL's around 5, we left the hockey game early (score was 5-1) and got there around 10. But I adore my MIL and know she's great with kids and could handle it. I can't imagine leaving him with someone I detest all day.

Even still, you have to remember that she belongs to you AND your DH, which means all of his family come along with the package. And it doesn't get any easier to catch up on sleep and/or housework, so it might be worth it to let her help out. Maybe try a shorter shift the first time, though.

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.

Honestly I can't stand my MIL. She is over bearign & critical and rude. She would not respect my routines, wishes etc. If it were up to me I would NEVER leave L with her, EVER. However, she is DHs mother so I suppose one day I will have to. I will not leave him for an extended period of time until he can walk & talk & I am serious. She does not know how to change a diaper, she is the most non-nurturing person I ever met and would have no idea how to soothe him. I can't stand to have her hold him when I am around let alone worry the entire time he was with her. H does want us to let htem babysit for a shorter period of time ( an hour or two) I fon't like the idea but she keeps complaining that we let my mom babysit so I may not have a choice.

The first time I left L he was 3 weeks old, we went to dinner, 1 hour my mom. The longest I have left him was 8 hrs but it was 4pm-midnight, with my mom at my house & he slept half the time. I will be leaving him again for an entire day Nov 10th when I go to the hospital for surgery. My mom will be staying with us. I have also left him with my sister & DH & was not worried.

Good Luck! Can you just leave her but not commit to how long? DO what you need to & when you feel like you want her back go get her?
