Babies on the Brain

Playing favorites

My sister, BIL and I were talking about this a couple of weeks ago because they were telling me how friends of theirs play favorites with their kids and they feel bad for the kids.

We discussed how my parents totally played faves too. My eldest sister was the favorite (she knows this too). She could do no wrong. Also, she is extremely close with my mom and my other sister(middle) is more of a dad's girl. Then there's me Crying LOL

Did your parents play favorties?

Re: Playing favorites

  • My older sister is the golden child and my younger brother is the baby.  He could rob a bank and my mom would make an excuse for it.  I however could win the nobel peace prize and my mom would ask me why I didn't do it sooner.  I hate being a middle child.

  • My parents weren't the ones who played favorites. My aunt and grandma did for a long time. They favored my brother, like taking him places and intentionally leaving me out. Half the time I never knew they were going anywhere.

  • I don't think my parents played favorites.  My grandparents on both sides played favorites and that made my parents very sensitive to it.

  • I don't know that I am necessarily the favorite, but I am definitely the "golden child."  Your typical first kid: type A, overachiever, outgoing, parent-pleaser, etc.

My parents were always really fair.  We all had the same punishment/rewards when growing up.  They were really cut and dry.

ETA: The rules were things like "If you have a 3.5 GPA in high school you get a later curfew."

My in laws play huge favorites.  My BIL is an idiot, and my MIL thinks he is perfect.  DH is definitely the good kid, but they kind of ignore it.

  • My DH's Grandmother does.  It's on our wedding video.  Her speech clearly states that he was her favorite.  My poor SIL was sitting right next to her and you can clearly see her roll her eyes right after the comment.

  • Growing up my parents treated all of us equal, but ever since I graduated high school my mom and I have gotten a lot closer.  My brothers and even my dad all say that I've become the favorite.  My dad always jokes that my mom only cleans and cooks when she knows I'm coming over (which is pretty frequently cuz I'm only 15-20 mins away) and that she'll only agree to do something/go somewhere if she knows I am too.  I'm the only girl though, so it makes sense that me and my mom stick together :)

  • My parents still play favorites.  My older brother is the golden boy according to my mom, and my younger brother is definitely my dad's favorite.  My youngest brother and I will never be the favorites, lol.

  • Hm- not really by our parents- I mean, I got to do more/got more because I was a "good" girl, and my brothers were always getting in trouble.

My Dad's Mom had a favorite- my oldest brother.  It was very clear even an the age of 8 that this was the case.

  • Growing up, my younger brother was able to get away with a lot more crap than I ever could.  They were much stricter with me, but now that we are older I am definitely the favorite.  I have always been my dad's favorite, but I think my mom is starting to agree.

  • If anything I guess I was the favorite but my brother is/was a bit of a wild child. He always kind of did things his own way so he needed more discipline where as I was the type of child who never did anything that bad b/c I was scared of getting caught.
