My sister, BIL and I were talking about this a couple of weeks ago because they were telling me how friends of theirs play favorites with their kids and they feel bad for the kids.
We discussed how my parents totally played faves too. My eldest sister was the favorite (she knows this too). She could do no wrong. Also, she is extremely close with my mom and my other sister(middle) is more of a dad's girl. Then there's me LOL
Did your parents play favorties?
Re: Playing favorites
I don't know that I am necessarily the favorite, but I am definitely the "golden child." Your typical first kid: type A, overachiever, outgoing, parent-pleaser, etc.
My parents were always really fair. We all had the same punishment/rewards when growing up. They were really cut and dry.
ETA: The rules were things like "If you have a 3.5 GPA in high school you get a later curfew."
My in laws play huge favorites. My BIL is an idiot, and my MIL thinks he is perfect. DH is definitely the good kid, but they kind of ignore it.
Hm- not really by our parents- I mean, I got to do more/got more because I was a "good" girl, and my brothers were always getting in trouble.
My Dad's Mom had a favorite- my oldest brother. It was very clear even an the age of 8 that this was the case.
