Miralax, Dulcolax or something else?

What do you take for constipation that your OB ok'd?

Mine said to just use Miralax, Dulcolax or Milk of Mag. but I don't have any experience with any of them.

Is there something you find more helpful with less cramps?

(Kals Sh!t Cocktail and other home remedies tried & failed)

  • Colace is a stool softener and it's OK - usually gets things going in 12-24 hours, no gas or cramps  :)

  • I've only ever taken colace. I also have trouble getting enough fiber so now I'm chewing fiber tablets and hoping that helps too.

Yep.  Colace was the only thing that my OB approved.  Apple products also seemed to help me.  Apples, apple juice, apple sauce... and lots of water too.

  • I have used Benefiber with great luck, however I used Miralax and it was the most horrifically painful experience. I would avoid it! I have also heard great things about colace! GL!
  • My doc okayed Dulcolax Suppositories were okay to use on occasion.?

    ?

  • colace - 100 mg twice a day! It works great as long as you take it regularly for a few days.
  • I swear by Miralax- no cramping or gas for me with it. It works in 1-2 days.

  • I'm not in 2nd tri, but some 2nd tri-ers helped me with my intestinal blockage problem a few days back.

Dulcolax suppositories worked wonders for me. Although it didn't get my blockage out (had to get a castor oil soapsud 32oz enema for that), they really helped soften it and get a little bit out. Sorry about the tmi, just being honest, and they didnt make me crampy like other things ive tried.

Miralax and MOM both made me sick to my stomach.

  • Colace, as much as you need. Then I was able to get off the colace by switching out usual bagel breakfast  to 1 entire apple cut up in oatmeal in the am- and I was able to feel more normal. Lots of water, tea, miso broth helped. Before that I was in a lot of pain with blockages and cramping. Miralax is no good. My stepdaughter takes it and hasn't been a good experiance.
  • I started drinking and eating tons of apple stuff (one of my cravings) and have not been constipated in weeks.
  • colace only works if you drink alot of water. So if you do you may have luck with that. Miralax works for me great. I mix it with 4 oz of oj and drink it quickly. It worked for me. the regular constipation dulcolax (not the softener) gives me the worst pains in my tummy but does the job for sure.
