Pregnant after 35

Feeling very vulnerable

I was just coming home from an OB appointment which resulted in a trip to labor and delivery for a non-stress test (everything is a-ok).  All of a sudden traffic on the freeway came to a halt.  I was able to slow down and stop in plenty of time, as was the guy behind me.  A few seconds later I hear crunching metal and look in my rearview and see what looks like a scene from a movie with cars flying and spinning out across the freeway.  I'm so freaked out that this accident happened so close to me, and all I can think of is that it could have been me.  By the time I got home I was so upset.  DH doesn't understand my "overreacting", but I just feel so vulnerable these days.  Anyone else feel especially vulnerable right now?  This is normal right?!?

Re: Feeling very vulnerable

  • I would react like that even if I weren't pregnant!  A close call is still a close call.  Glad you are okay!

  • I know what you mean about feeling vulnerable.  I'm very sensitive these days...

  • Very understandable. I haven't been able to exhale this entire pregnancy.

Looks like we're heading to the finish line together!

  • I am glad you are okay! Warning: it gets worse when LO gets here. I have always been an observant driver but now, I am pretty nuts about it (and everything else).
  • Oooooh, this sounds very normal to me. I was soooo - well, I say "cautious" - DH says "paranoid and annoying", the bigger I got. The freeways really freaked me out and I am not normally a nervous driver/passenger. I also felt very vulnerable.

  • That would of scared me too. I glad you were not involved in the accident.

I'm glad you were not in the accident and completely agree with this comment.  You are not over-reacting just being a protective mama.
