Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Dr. Brown's nipple

I wanted to hear form others who use Dr. Brown's bottles.  My son is now 3 months and it says on the website that level 2 is for 3 months +

We are still using level 1.  When should I switch?  He only gets 2 bottles at days care the rest of the time I BF.  I am afraid if I switch and he begins to get it easier from the bottle he will stop BF.

 Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Dr. Brown's nipple

  • We switched closer to 4 months, only because he was a preemie and seemed like it took him a little longer to get with the program. ?The bottle feedings were taking super long to finish. Once he started on level 2, he's never looked back, sucking down a bottle in mere minutes!?

  • My DD is 5 months and I am still using level 1 ... our pedi. says it's not a bad thing... sucking is soothing for them at this age... I will probably switch at 6 months.
  • With DD, we switched her at 6 months. With DS, we switched somewhere between 6-8 weeks.  I think it just depends on how long it is taking them to finish the bottle.

You could always try it and if the milk is pouring down his face, its probably too soon.

  • I have heard that if you BF and use bottles you need to use a level 1 for as long as possible.  If you use a 2 or 3 etc the baby gets the milk to quickly and might not want to BF.  I'm not sure I believe this bc my DS will BF over take a bottle anyday, but I'm sticking to level 1 just in case.

  • We switched to number twos recently maybe 2-3 weeks ago. LO started taking forever to finish and seemed to get bored and would just play with the nipple. When we changed he went back to eating like normal again instantly.

Edit* didnt see the breast feeding part dont know about that sorry.

    This too*

  • We switched to level 2 nipples right around 3 mo. We did it because DD was starting to take forever to drink a bottle and seemed frustrated by it, not because the package said to. I have a fast let down and I think with the level 1 nipples, BF was easier to her then drinking the bottle at that point. She is doing great with level 2 and no problems with BF.
