I can't remember who it was that went there, but if you've been, what is the best tour to take?  or is it better to drive through on your own.  I have my IL's coming out around Thanksgiving and we want to take the kids.

We drove through on our own and it was awesome (enough that we bought a membership). It may be worth it to you to do that since you get 2 free guest passes with it. If you have an SUV or a truck, I recommend taking that over a car. Also, if you have a sunroof that is super fun with the giraffes

We've only ever driven through it and it's so much fun! Take a picnic lunch too...at the halfway point there is a place to stop with picnic tables/restrooms/gift shop and cool views.
