How long was he/she in the NICU? What did you find helpful or need most from family and friends? I ask because DH's coworker just had her baby tonight at 24.5 weeks. We wanted to get or do something for her and her family. Any suggestions? Gift cards, dinner or food brought to their house? We want to help but not bother them. TIA!
Re: If your baby was born between 24-25 weeks?
My little one was born at 26 weeks. My sister's co-workers got us gift cards to restuarants that were near the hospital. I thought that was very nice since you get sick of the hospital cafeteria food!
My angel was born at 26 weeks and the doctors told us that we could expect her home about 2 weeks before or after her due date. She came home 2 weeks after her due date almost to the day. We really appreciated gift cards to Target and Babies R us or just plain old cash. It also helped knowing we were in people's prayers. People we barely knew had Angelina in their hearts and prayers and that made is feel great.
Our baby was born at 26w and was in the hospital almost 3 weeks past his due date. I would expect the baby to be there beyond it's due date (and hopefully it will come home sooner!!)
I'm sure anything you do they will appreciate!!! The thing we appreciated most was meals and/or gift cards for food!
my lo was born on July 4 at 24.5 and is due home around Christmas-about 6 mos totaly stay. The home by due date doesn't necessarily hold true for micropreemies. I've really appreciated calls, emails, cards-just people letting me know that they realize I'm still in the middle of all this. Also, micro preemie clothes, preemie clothes, a zacky, sleep sheep-nicu appropriate stuff.
very good point, now that you mention it!
I agree with the pp, That with the micro preemies the due date is not always a realistic expectation. We were in the the NICU for 126 days, and we got out 19 days after his EDD.
For us, Gas cards, restaurant gift card or gift cards to baby places are always nice, and very appreciated.
