My 3 week old has been constipated from the formula. The doctor recommends 6oz of water per day, dark karo syrup, and just give it time to work (2-3 weeks). The water doesnt noticeably help, the karo syrup might help a little. We havent tried meds yet, the dr didnt want to put her on anything this early. What do you do for your constipated baby that grunts and screams when they push (and nothing comes out)?
Re: Constipated baby - help!
My doctor recommended laying DS on his back, and providing some gentle resistance against his feet, so he has something to push against. I can't say it helped immensely, but he's started pooping again. It still takes him awhile, but it comes out.

My baby has the same problem. She is on 1/2 formula and 1/2 pumped breast milk.
The nurse said to soak her bum in warm water (90-100F, normal bath temp) for 5 mins and it worked last nite!
Her last BM was Saturday nite and then last nite after the bum soaking. Hugh amount of poop.
She seems to be making the grunting noise and red face again today... hope not... no BM since last nite yet...
Did you use baby prune juice or regular prune juice? I'm having this problem too.
I used Sunsweet 100% Prune Juice. It is all natural with no additives. The Pedi told me the baby prune juice wouldn't be as effective.
