As of my 28-week appt this morning, I'm up 26 lbs. My doctor gently told me that I should rein it in. I know I've been totally indulging *way* too much. He told me that I'm looking at a 40-pound weight gain all told if I keep to 1 lb. a week from here out. That kind of put it in perspective! Ugh, now to focus on laying off the sugar and refined starches!
On another note, my RE and OB share an office space, and I saw the RE in the office this morning. She's great--gave me a big hug and came out to the waiting room to see how everything was going.
Re: eek, I have gained too much weight
Try not to let it bother you too much. 40lb weight gain isn't terrible. Shoot, I'm at 38lbs so far with 4 wks to go. 25 of those pounds I had gained by my 25th week.
It has tapered off. I'm right on target with my last pregnancy so I'm not concerned.

I am a pound shy of the 30 mark! I am probably on my way to the big 40! My dr. isn't concerned. It used to bother me but I realize I am doing the best I can to eat/excercise (whe I can). I am hoping most of it will melt away after birth :-) Maybe I am naive though! Try not to worry about it!
Oh yeah, it will taper off. I had my highest gain around 23-25 weeks.
I hit the 26lb mark at my 26 week appt. I'm not stressing too much over it. That whole "300 extra calories a day" thing is ridiculous when you are starving all the freaking time.
ETA: I have been on a diet my entire adult life, so I'm going to enjoy this diet break for all it's worth.
Try to up your activity. Walking even 30 minutes a day can help!
