Pregnant after 35

Ugh. Fibroids!

My OB told me yesterday that they found two more fibroids in my uterus, making it SEVEN total!  WTF.  Couple that with my cervical biopsy history, and we've got some potential high risk issues.  So, I am scheduled to see a perinatologist this afternoon.  Ugh.

Good news is that I heard my baby's HB on the doppler again -- 160 bpm!  And, we might be getting our CVS results on Friday!  DH wants to know the gender of our baby -- although I know it's an exciting part of PG, I am excited, yet nervous, to find out!

EDIT:  BTW, my uterus is measuring a month larger b/c of my baby's seven unwanted roommates.  I guess that explains why I look 4 months PG already.  More ugh.

  • Oh my gosh, you poor thing!  I am so sorry to find out there are even more of those awful things!  I hope the meeting this afternoon goes well.  Let us know!

Are you in a lot of pain?

    Hugs to you!

Thanks for asking, Shannon -- I haven't felt any pelvic pain in a while.  I did early on in the PG, and the 7-week U/S discovered five fibroids.  Apparently, two more have grown to where they were detectable at the 11-week U/S last week.  None of them are in the lining, so there is no heightened risk of m/c, but preterm labor is the concern.  My OB is afraid the fibroids will take up too much room, putting unnecessary pressure on my cervix, and possibly evicting their human roommate, my precious LO, early.

  • Oh gosh, I'm sorry.  Do you know the sizes of any of them by any chance?  I mean, a lot of them isn't a good thing, but hopefully none of them are "massive".  My OB has used that word more than once to describe my largest of the three.  It's 13 cm.  Hopefully yours are tiny.  Also, are any of them low?  Those are the buggers that block the exit.

You can have a perfectly healthy pregnancy with fibroids.  Hopefully the worst we both will have (and the other girls with them here) are bigger bellies.  People are always shocked when I tell them when I am due.  I had someone say to me the other day, "So... any day now, right?"  I was like, "No, I'm not due until January!"

  • Seven!  Wow!

I hope they end up being a non-issue, except in getting seats on the bus earlier.

  • I have a couple...  one has been degenerating and it blew up to 13cm before starting to shrink a bit.  THAT is the only problem I've had with them, since it was mother fricking painful as heck for a week or more.   Not so bad now, just a very tender spot right around my belly button and there's a weird lump right there.

The other one may be a bit of a problem as it sits down by my cervix and might be blocking the exit, so to speak.  But last we could see it, it was pretty small yet.

Unfortunately, because of cross contamination risk, doc can't just remove them if I end up with a c-section.  But the degenerating one may come out on it's own if it's detacted itself.  That will be a lovely mess!

  • Uggg!  I have fibroids too (grapefruit, orange and plum sized ones) and they have been staying out of my way for the most part.  I had two painful bouts around the middle but for now they are just taking up space and yes, making me look much larger than I should.  If one more person asks if i'm having twins.....
  • I am sorry about your fibroids!
