I've had it since I was a teen, and it's considered mild to moderate. The doc said when I was diagnosed that it probably wouldn't be an issue until my 3rd trimester of pregnancy (should I ever get pg) when the blood volume triples. Well, no issues the first time around--in fact, OB said she couldn't even hear it last time, but lately I've been having what feel like chest pains. I feel them sometimes when I am under a lot of stress, normally, but I'm not really under any unusual stress right now. I don't want to make a big to do about nothing.
Re: Anyone PG with MVP?
Oh hon... don't try to self-diagnose yourself! Call your doc ASAP! Especially if you think it's chest pains!!
Remind yourself of how much money your doctor is making to treat you. That makes those calls so much easier to make!
I know...I just think it might be gas or something. I really don't want to get all crazy about it (I'm a bit in denial, can you tell?) I've got an appt. Thursday, so I'll make sure she checks me out. The murmur kind of comes and goes. Sometimes it's very audible, sometimes it's not. Every time I've ever gone for an EKG or echo, it's been normal (or within normal limits). But, you're right.
So what if it's just gas!! Then you can just laugh at yourself and your paranoia! That will be easy to treat then, right???!!! You'll be the easiest patient they'll have to deal with all day!
Get the attitude that YOU and your pregnancy are a top priority for your docs and don't be embarassed about silly questions!
I was diagnosed with MVP when I was a kid. Just as with yours, sometimes mine is audible, sometimes it's not. I frequently got chest pains as well. I was asked to see a cardiologist last year about it. He conducted an EKG, and it was normal, so he said it's no big deal. He wrote a letter to that effect to all my doctors. I no longer have to take anti-biotics before dental cleaning visits or oral surgery. My OB doesn't see it as an issue with my PG.
The chest pains come and go, mostly when I worked out, but I haven't felt them in a long while.
