Pregnant after 35

hi from a newbie! and a ?

hey ladies! JUST saw this "pregnant after 35" board and i am soooo excited! i have posted on the 2nd tri boards a few times but am looking forward to knowing more people MY age!

i am wondering if anyone is feeling weirdly frustrated like me? im 35, but look like im 20 something. this is a double edged sword. sometimes i am happy about it (getting carded) most times i am just FRUSTRATED! like at my job, as clearly i dont know what i am doing "im just a kid"

also

i am 5 months pregnant but not really showing-  my jeans are tight but most everything else still fits. I FEEL pregnant but as im not really showing noone knows unless i tell them.

i realize these may seem like silly petty things, but its gets rather tiresome answering questions  like "when did you graduate honey?" "is this your first job?" etc

actually this is my 2nd job and only temporary! right now i am managing a jewelry store, but im really a high school art teacher! (which was tough at back to school night... is you mom coming soon? we would like to hear about the art class!" ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)

i look forward to showing more as i feel like that will end the questions on  graduating high school... hopefully hahahahaha

anyway i guess that was a vent... but... hi ladies! i look forward to being part of this board!

  • LOL.  Lot's of layers to that one!  First of all, enjoy looking young while you can!  It's annoying (at least from what I remember LOL) but you will miss it should the day ever come that anyone says "yeah, you look 30-something."

Ditto for "looking pg."  I had that wish.  Ohhhhh did I wish I "looked pg."  And almost a year post partum, I STILL looked pregnant! LOL  You will show more as you get into the end of 2nd/beginning of last trimester.  Be happy that (I'm sure) you look great.  Looking pg ain't all it's cracked up to be!!!

  • Everyone has issues like that in some ways.

I'm a very young looking 42 year old.  Most people don't think I'm over 35.  But my mom is a very young looking 65 year old, too so I'm blessed with her good genes.

Would you rather look 55 rather than 35?  Then people will constantly think your child is your grandchild.   Which, to me, would be worse.

    Pick your battles.

  • thanks for the pep talk KG!

I know it wont last forever, looking young i mean. but my mom and my 94 year old grandmother look young as well. (she looks 80! haha)  i think its basically the work issue that makes it frustrating. like i dont have the credibility or the experience (according to customers or parents of my students) kinda knocks me down a lot

thanks for sharing about your pregnancy "looks" never thought of it from the OTHER side hahaha

yesterday was a really bad day in the way of people comments. NONE about being pregnant but loads about "taking the day off from school" sigh.

wont they be surprised when this "baby" has a BABY! hahah cant wait!

  • LOL! I am in the same boat as far as looking young. I am sure I don't help my case since I don't dress up very often but rather usually have jeans and casual shirts on, nor do I wear makeup.

Although it is annoying to be carded at 36, I have learned to accept it and live with it. I'll take my wrinkle-free face over the pruney people my age that I sometimes see!! Wink

When on the phone, too, I often get asked "is your mommy home?" LMAO!!

  • I feel your pain about the age thing.  I'm 36 and am often told I look almost 10 years younger.  And the "enjoy it" comments piss me off.  When you look young, esp in the workplace, people don't take you seriously and it almost seems like you lose 10 years of experience.  I know that sounds dumb but I feel like that at times.

It's so ironic b/c I think that people sometimes wonder if I'm old enough to have a 5 year old and here I am pregnant and "advanced maternal age"!

I don't really know what to tell you about the age thing - I struggle with it too and I will not tell you to enjoy b/c I know how much it bothers me.  I am acutely aware that one day I will wake up and I will actually look my age but, I will deal with it then.

Edit - I just re-read this and realize how bitter I sound :)  The majority of the time, I am grateful that I am young looking it's other people's comments that bother me but people will think what they think, I suppose.
