First Post- When to start the nursery?

Hello ladies, this is my first post on the bump, just found out we are expecting and I can't wait to start on the nursery. When is the reasonable time to get started? Any good blogs or reads that you recommend.

TIA

Re: First Post- When to start the nursery?

  • Congrats. :)

We bought our furniture after the NT Scan at 12 weeks because they said it would take up to 14 weeks to come in. It took 8 weeks. Custom glider took 10 weeks. We had looked for a couple of weekends prior to actually buying it.

Most people who are finding out gender wait until after the 20week u/s to buy bedding and really start the nursery since up to that point you don't know what you're having (even if they give you a guess at the NT Scan). That being said, plenty of people decide to stay neutral (even if they are finding out) and can start it earlier.

Having started to feel crappy around 35 weeks, I would have LOVED to be finished with it prior to that time. That being said, I finished at exactly 37 weeks.

  • We started ours at week 28. I wanted to wait until at least week 20 so we knew what we were having. We had a shower with my in-laws around week 26 so we used some of the cash we had from that to start the nursery.

It's really up to you when your ready to start. I wouldnt start it too soon or your not going to have anything to do later. We are still putting finishing touches on ours and we'll be able to fill it with stuff after my shower (with my family and friends).

  • Congrats!  We bought our furniture at 12 weeks and the rest after we found out it was a girl around 19 weeks.  Have fun!

  •  I love this site for inspiration!  I'm not sure your style, but they feature more contemporary/modern nurseries.

A lot of people on this site, like BabyRoomBio.  It has them sorted by color/style.

  • Congrats!

We started at about 20 weeks and did things slowly, it still isn't finished

I loved using babyroombio and roomzaar for ideas.

  • Congrats! We will be purchasing our furniture very soon and will begin nursery once we find out the sex at 20 weeks Smile

Oh and go on Hgtv.com and check out the rate my space nurseries.

  • Welcome and congrats!

You can definitely start your nursery anytime, but we chose to wait until our big ultrasound at 20 weeks to find out the gender.

We're repurposing a lot of our current furniture instead of buying new for our guestroom/nursery. We did research on the things we needed like a crib (IKEA has great budget options) and then we've decided to wait until after our baby showers to purchase all the little details to finish the nursery.

I really like the website: www.ohdeedoh.com for modern nursery ideas! GL!

  • We wanted to find out whether we were having a boy or girl at our big u/s before starting. Even with that, we didin't start until this weekend - painting stripes on the main wall.  We will order the furniture by the end of October.  The plan is to have everything in the room and set-up by Thanksgiving (I'll be 34 weeks).

  • I had lots of ideas in my head and was online constantly, but didn't buy anything or really start on it until after my ultrasound at 20 weeks, I wanted the room to be gender specific!
  • Ummm, I still haven't startedEmbarrassed  Will probably be buying the furniture this weekend though.  I figure the baby will be rooming with us for at least the 1st month so I have plenty of time

  • Congratulations!

We've started working on ours a little - cleared out the room and closet, and rearranged other rooms and closets for all the stuff that was in there,

We're planning to put in new flooring and build some shelves, etc, in the closet, so I figure we'll do all that before we find out the gender.  We've also started looking at furniture and figuring out what colors, etc, we want to use whether its a boy or girl.

  • Congrats! We just painted our nursery since it snows so much here, and we needed to be able to open the windows when painting. I have kind of decided on a theme (down to two or three), and we'll start buying once we have the 20week u/s. (don't forget you'll get some stuff from showers too!!)
  • Since I wanted mostly neutral nursery, we bought our sheets and mobile and such at 15 weeks when it was on sale. Then at 21 weeks I bought the crib and dresser. I have started some of the little projects too, but will not really get started until after my US at 22wk3days. I am doing green and yellow but adding purple or blue accents. I say, start when you feel like it! I did not do anything the first trimester because I could barely get out of bed..
