So, Im sure you all have heard about the H1N1 vacine. If not, you need to come out from under the rock! As an expecting mother (20weeks along) and a NICU nurse, the Department of Health is mandating the seasonal Flu shot and the H1N1 for all health care workers. I dont mind the Flu shot, but I am looking for advice on the H1N1...would you get it? I know it is prepared the same exact way and in the same place as the seasonal Flu, Im just nervous because it is so brand new. They have no info or evidence based practices on pregnant woman and the H1N1. My OB said that it is a personal choice...what would you do if you were in my shoes? I am scared to death to get the H1N1, but even more scared the vacine could cause long term side effects for my baby.
Re: H1N1...are you gonna get it?
yep, have to get it for work. I have a newborn at home and am also getting it for her sake. my SO will also be getting it (he is mandated because he's in the military).
i honestly don't know what i would do if i were pregnant. passing immunity to the LO isn't a bad idea, but who knows about side effects. however, as a NICU nurse you probably should - if my daughter was in the NICU i would hope her nurse would have had it....
already got the regular flu shot.
Hey Nicole-
I just got my H1N1 here tonight when they came around with it. I wasn't going to but I got talked into it by a reliable source who I happened to be on the phone with when they walked in.
