Running a ceiling fan/humidifier in the nursery in winter?

A few things I've read about SIDS said to run a ceiling fan and/or a humidifier to keep the air moving, I know the ceiling fan will be chilly in the winter, what do you use?

    you can run the fan the opposite way in the winter.

    I live where it is warm all year around but my family doesn't.  I know that many people buy a fan and instead of having it blowing on the baby they have it blow against the wall but it still keeps things moving.

    We have a small fan that we use. It's a tabletop or desktop personal fan. We have 3 boys and also need to block off some noise!!
