Where would I start to find info on an old murder case?

My great-aunt was murdered in the early 40's. No one ever told my grandma much about it, as she was only 9 at the time. I'd like to know more--like I know the park where it happened. The park happens to be right across from the zoo, and I drive by it frequently, and find myself wishing I knew exactly where it happened. I have 2 newspaper articles about it, but they are very conflicting. Is it just impossible to find out more, as everyone that was around then is now gone? Or can I find police reports and stuff?

  • You should be able to pull police reports.  They don't normally get destroyed.  Also, death certificates, etc should be on file with the town hall where it happened.

  • Wow.  I have no idea.  Never thought of it.  I think if it were me, maybe my first thought would be to talk to my BIL & SIL who are cops to find out where to start investigating.
  • City hall records, police station, and maybe the newspapers that printed the articles should all have info.
