Clarke as middle name ... for a girl?

Pretty sure I'm going to get a big bunch of NO here, but do you think I could use my mothers maiden name as a girls middle name? So, it would be Lauren Clarke. Go ahead, I think I just need to hear it :(

Re: Clarke as middle name ... for a girl?

  • I love the idea, but I would only use it for a boy.

  • Why not??  If it was for her first name, I would send you a great big rousing no way, but as a middle name, why not?  Who is ever going to call her Lauren Clarke anyways?  Most people won't even know her middle name... I say go for it.
  • I agree with loveyoubean...No one will even know her middle name and if they do, they will know the story behind it, which is a very sweet story.  I say Yes, go for it!

  • Actually I think that's a great idea.

I know a lot of people who have done this... in the South, at least, it's a pretty common thing. (Also I used to babysit for a little girl whose middle name was Clarke!) My dad always kind of wanted to do that with his daughter (me, as it turns out ;) ), but my mom's maiden name was *awful* so that went out the window pretty fast! :)

This.  My aunt's middle name is Gibson, which is a family name.  Clarke is a nice name and you should go for it!

    Sadie is not impressed.

  • I think its cute. Your going to think Im crazy but I even like it for a first name. I love the idea of using your mom's maiden name. I plan on doing the same thing. My middle name is my mothers maiden name and I would like to keep it in the family.

  • I do see a problem with it at all, especially since Lauren is such a feminine name. I had a friend who had a middle name Stuart after her mother's maiden name.

  • I love it--even if I might be biased because Clark is a family name for me, too. :)  But I think it sounds great with Lauren.

  • Because it's a family name, I say go for it!

  • I think I would only if I was planning for 1 child and it was a girl. If I knew I was planning on having more than 1 child (biologically or via adoption) I might hold out for a boy and use it a mn for him.
    Blank!
  • I think it's a great idea. Of course, I'm biased because my mom's maiden name is also Clarke and I'd like to use it as a mn for a future child.
  • That's exactly what I did for my DD's mn! I love it!
  • I like it!!  In fact, I think it's a great idea!  And for what it's worth, I have a very good friend (female) whose middle name is Edward after a family member.  She loves it!
  • I love Clarke for a girl and It goes very well with Lauren!

  • Of course! I'm for using ANY surname for a middle name for boy or girl, as long as it's an actual family name (and OK, maybe not if it were James and you were having a girl...but pretty much ANY).

Some of my girl friends' middle names include:

    Bryant

    Hayes

Keys (and actually her FN is Lauren)

    Wake

    Shumate

So, I think it's fine, and I think Lauren Clarke sounds pretty.

  • We are using Preston for a middle name for our girl.  It's my husband's middle name and his late grandfather's name.  This is probably our last child so we want to definitely want to use the name.

However, we are still not sure about a first name.  I also want it to be feminine so it will counter with the MN Preston.  We are running out of time.  I love Lauren but that's my sisters name.

  • I would do it. My maiden is Clark and I might use it, boy or girl. Look at all of the Kennedy family, half of the girls have last names as middle names. Caroline Bouvier Kennedy, Maria Owings Shriver and many more.

This is my challenge! We already have a DD. If #2 is another girl, I really want to use Clarke but if it's a boy, I don't think I want to. Then there is the fact that we are still pretty sure we'll have a #3! So, I'm not sure what to do!

  • I wouldn't want to have that as my middle name so no, I don't think it's a good idea. I would save it for when/if you have a boy.
  • I like it, especially since it's a family name.
