I am EPing to feed my 6 week old twins but I am not getting enough milk to even give them half of their daily feedings breastmilk. I am taking fenugreek, pumping at least every 3 hours, power pumping, eating oatmeal and drinking plenty of water... I have tried everything I know of and I am wondering if Reglan is the next step.
Have you use Reglan?
What difference did you see if any?
Any negative side effects?
Thanks you!
Re: Have you had success with Reglan?
You may not want to hear this, but a dear friend of mine had such horrific side effects from Reglan that we're now all advocates against its use.
My friend took Reglan while pregnant (for reflux) and ended up with severe shakes, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts. She had to be babysat by her husband or mother at all times. When she finally came off of the Reglan, the doctors at Dartmouth (where she ended up needing to go) told her that they consider it a "dirty drug". Her daughter just turned 2 and she is still on antidepressants to try to correct what the Reglan did to her brain.
There are now lawsuit commercials on TV for everyone who has had permanent nerve damage due to Reglan. My friend has also connected with some others for support.
My grandpa is also a pharmacist so I've of course spoken with him about the drug. He doesn't even understand why doctors are prescribing it for so many different reasons right now. My grandma also has a friend who had very bad side effects from Reglan. This friend became constantly sick for months and lost a ton of weight. After her doctors tried to find a reason for all those months, they finally stopped her Reglan and she improved.
Anyway, I don't want to scare you, but I hate to hear of expecting or new mothers using Reglan. If there are any other prescription options available to you, I'd recommend going another route.
its very dangerous to use reglan for more than 2 weeks - so even if you notice an increase, it is doubtful you'll sustain it.
try domperidone instead.
