Which vitamins do you take?

Hey everyone - I went to my first appointment and my doctor gave me a bag full of prenatal vitamins sample packs and told me to just tell them which one I like and they can call in a prescription for me. I've tried three types and they all seem the same to me! Which vitamins do you take or recommend (OTC is fine too)? Thanks!

Re: Which vitamins do you take?

  • I take OB Natal which is the generic for Prenate (prescription).  I took GNC prenatal vitamins while TTC.  I also tried the One A Day brand prenatal vitamins and didn't care for them.

  • I take the Women's One-A-Day with the additional DHA/EPA capsule. My OB thinks they're great and didn't want me to switch to anything else. Just make sure you're taking an additional fatty acid capsule with the right DHA/EPA.

  • First, I'm going through all of the samples the Dr.'s office gave me.  Then, I'll go back to what I took last time, prescription Citra Natal Assure (Prenatal Vit. + 300 mg DHA capsule)....it's one of the few that didn't upset my stomach.  With insurance, I think it's $50 a month - hence, using the samples first.  I also supplement with Nature Made Folic Acid pills.
  • I take PreNexa and really like them. I took Target brand for the first 18 weeks or so and was sooo sick.... and the PreNexa  seem to not make me as nauseated
  • Thanks ladies! PreNexa was one of the ones I sampled so I may go with that, depending on what they will cost. I was taking Nature's Own from Kroger or CVS before my appointment and it seemed to have all the nutritional parts you need, but this is my first pregnancy so I wanted to make sure I am getting the right one. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your weekend!
  • I like the prenate DHA and then I take viactiv chews on top of that for calcium.  I like that the prenate vitamins are coated so they are easy to swallow...plus the omegas come from a non-fish oil source so you don't end up burping fishy tastes...some of the other samples I took gave me fishy burps.
  • I take the Wal-Mart brand.  The doc said they have everything I need and so far they don't make me sick as long as I take them with food.

  • I took prenate dha.  I didn't know that there was a generic-I'm so asking the pharmacist for that next time!  It was $45 month for me!!

  • Woah, $45-50? The Women's One-A-Day with a separate prenatal multi-vitamin and the DHA/EPA capsules (two bottles each, 1 month) is only $14.99 and I thought that was expensive!
  • PreNexa has a $5 off coupon on thier website... the first month I got mine filled at Tom Thumb and thy were $40.... the next month switched to Walgreens and they were only $16 a month :)
  • Prenate DHA.  I was also given samples, but these were the ones my RE started me on, so I stayed on them since they didn't make me sick.
