We have hardwood floors throughout the house - area rugs only.
I'm considering wall to wall in the nursery. I know there's the whole dust/allergens things, but I vaccuum like a lunatic - total clean freak. So I'm not sure how much of a problem that would really be. We don't really have allergies in our families, on a side note.
My reasoning for considering it is that it seems warmer, and as the babies grow they could sit/crawl/play on the floor and it'd be soft/comfortable.
Thoughts?
Re: To carpet, or not to carpet?
I REALLY wanted hardwoods in our nursery, but we had carpet and didn't want to deal with it since we moved into the house the day before I was due! Anyway, now that I have her, I am glad we have carpet. I still don't put her down directly on the carpet (she has a washable rug that we play on) but it's nice to have the play rug on a softer surface.
We have hardwoods throughout the rest of our house and I find that I always take her upstairs to her room to "play" because even with a rug, the hardwood surface seems so... hard.
When I think of carpet I think 'dirty'. But I understand the softness thing, and I certainly loved my wall to wall carpet as a kid.
If you do it, go with wool instead of a synthetic for respiratory concerns.

We have hardwoods throughout our house, but we have carpeted our whole upstairs which is where all the rooms are. ?It wasn't always that way, but the floors upstairs are so squeaky. ?Especially in the nursery, it drove me batty. ?Our house was built in 1920 so when I had someone over to look at fixing the squeaks, I was told my best bet was to just add carpet with a thick pad?underneath. ?That is what we did, it still squeaks, but not nearly as bad as the downstairs, and now after?pacing?back and forth with him for hours to get to sleep, a loud one doesn't wake him up as I walk out. ?I still use large area rugs too, I love the way they tie the decor together.
