Pregnant after 35

18 wk check up was today

I had my 18 wk check up today.  Baby's heartbeat was 160 and the doctor found it right away. I was very glad for that!

It was an interesting appointment.

I told the doctor about the pubic pain I've been having.  She said it sounds like the pubic bone has separated.  Well isn't that fun. LOL.

They also found some blood in my urine.  So she went ahead a wrote me a Rx for an antibiotic but they decided to run a culture on my urine.  Of course I had to leave another specimen which meant drinking 3 bottles of water and waiting an extra 45 minutes in the doctor's office so I could pee! LOL.  I am supposed to call back on Monday to get the results from the culture.

Big u/s is Oct 30th.  I am so ready! :)

  • Ugh. Sorry to hear about your pelvis. I separated mine while delivering my son. I could not sit myself up in bed, could not pick my legs off the ground for a few days - I had absolutely zero strength in my legs because the pelvis would move instead of my leg - I could feel it shift and grind against itself. I was on crutches for 3 weeks. I am normally a side sleeper, and had to sleep on my back for months.

I found my OBs to be quite useless when it came to the injury. They gave me a big pelvic binder and said take it easy. Turns out I did not heal properly and could not walk around the mall for an hour without having severe pain that night (forget exercise to get back in shape!) I had to see a chiropractor and he got me fixed up after about 3 months and a lot of pain. I'm going to start seeing him agian when I gain some weight and start showing, sooner if I start to feel any pain. Maybe seeing a chiro now could help you?

I'm hoping to not repeat the injury this time, so I've been doing a little research online, for what it is worth?? Try to sit flat on your butt - dont sit with your legs crossed or feet off to one side. When you stand up/sit down, do it with even wieght on your feet - for instance when you get out of the car swing both legs out the door and stand.

I don't know what your thoughts about the birth are, but if you want to go vaginal the best way to protect the pelvis is to deliver in an upright position - squatting, maybe hands and knees. This means no epi.  My OB told me I was now a candidate for elective c-section, but I'm going vaginal again unless it looks like the baby will be 10+ pounds (my son was 9lbs.)

     Good luck with everything!

Yikes!  You have had a terrible time - I'm sorry to hear that.

I basically sit all day at work except for the times when I get up to go to the bathroom or take a break.  It about kills me sometimes and then when I get up to walk I feel like a 90 yr old woman.  Even while I'm sitting at home I have to constantly change positions or get up.  Sounds like it's not going to go away until after I have the baby though - hopefully it will then.

    Thanks!

  • Pubic bone separation?  WTF.  That sounds really, really painful.

I'm glad to hear your LO is doing great though!

Sounds crazy doesn't it?  I asked DH if that meant I was going to be walking one day and just come undone. lol.  Here's some info I found:

It can be very painful at times.

I'm glad LO is doing well too.  I can deal with anything else as long as that is the case! :)

  • Ugh.  I'm sorry you are going through this separated pubic bone condition.  The more I hear about PG, the less fun PG sounds.  I remember learning about a procedure called an episiotomy.  Ouch.  I need to talk to my OB about that.
