Would you travel overseas with a 4 week old?

DH will have to work on an excavation in Israel starting around a month after this next one is born. I'd love to go along, but is this crazy? Otherwise I'll be home alone for a month with a toddler and a newborn. Oy.

Re: Would you travel overseas with a 4 week old?

  • I would!

eta: I would only go b/c it's something anonymous . I wouldn't travel in any other capacity.  Like if you told me I had to travel to see my family or something I'd be horrified.  But to just go and be invisible for a month sounds blissful to me.

  • No, I don't think I would.  I thought you weren't suppose to fly until they were 6 weeks old?  I would definitely do it at 8 weeks, but I would worry about it that young.

  • I would travel w/ a newborn, but probably not 4 weeks. No real rational reason, but I'd probably wait until the baby was just a little older. We are thinking about doing an oversees trip when #2 would be about 3 months old.

  • I don't think I would, only b/c of the flight, I'd be really afraid of what the kids would get illness wise and getting them treatment if necessary in a foreign country.  But I'd be really tempted!

  • The hospitals there are awesome, so that's not a worry. But I might have to ask our pediatrician about illness risks, etc. from being on the plane. Hmmm.

  • Yes, I would!  Newborns are super easy to travel with.  I would ask my pedi first about being only 4 weeks but if I got the okay from the pedi I would absolutely go!

  • I would, as long as I was going to be at the destination for a substantial amount of time to make the time adjustment worth my while.

  • I was going to say "Sure" but then I thought about the baby not being vaccinated and being so young.  We vax so it's something I would think about.

  • I absolutely would! What a wonderful trip.
  • What if your baby isn't born on the due date, but 10 days later? What if there are complications and your child has to remain in the hospital? I think there are too many variables to make a set-in-stone plan. Personally, I'd talk to my doctors (OB and ped) and see what they say. Then I'd make tentative plans, knowing that things may not work out.
