Re: flu shot and h1n1 shot
I NEVER get the flu shot and can't remember the last time I had the flu. However, I did get the regular flu shot this year -as I have a toddler in daycare now that bring home every little germ.
I had a real hard time finding the Thimerisol free flu vaccine ( i have a reaction to mercury so I couldn't get the other). It is basically gone at every location here...I got so lucky and my company offered flu sots yesterday and by some miracle they had a few doses available.
I am not getting the H1N1 - there is just not enough data to show that it is safe for fetuses and I do not want to take that risk. However i will be very proactive about my health and if I feel like I am getting sick i will be going to the dr. to get checked out.
At this point I've declined both as well. I've never had the regular flu shot in the past have had a very strong immune system. I can't imagine pregnancy is going to suppress my immune system that much. I am just being extremely cautious - washing my hands constantly, not touching the face, if anyone even coughs on the Metro I move away from them or switch cars/trains, etc. I know they say it's safe for pregnant women but we are told to be so careful about what we put in our bodies - food, drink, even the air we breath - that I just don't feel comfortable at this point. If my midwife forces me to get it I will look for a Hg-free version of the shots.
my doc insisted I get both but I haven't yet... at first I really didn't want to as I've only had the shot once and got sick afterward and I just cannot afford to take any more time off of work or it will shorten my maternity leave. However, after looking at daycares this week and realizing that I'm surrounded by snotty nose kids
everywhere I go, I think I'm gonna go ahead and get at least the regular flu shot.

My OB recommended I get both. I am getting the flu shot next week and then will get the H1N1 Shot when I go back to her for my next visit on 11/3.
I followed my doctor's advise and received the seasonal (preservative-free) vaccine and will receive the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available.
I will also make sure my children and DH are vaccinated. (My DD received the H1N1 flumist yesterday as she is the only one that qualifies in this household).
This is not a new vaccine. Medimmune, the company who produces regular seasonal Flumist, is the same company who has produced this H1N1 Flumist, using the very same technology. It really is not a new "vaccine," but a new "strain" that has been included. With any vaccine, there is always a risk of allergic or adverse reactions, but when that risk is so small compared to the benefit of limiting disease, it is recommended.
No to both.
I've never had a regular flu shot so I don't know how I'd react to it. And this late in the game, I don't want to do anything that might be bad for me or the baby.
As for H1N1, I'm skipping that as well. I'm a SAHM and have no other children, so my exposure is very, very limited. Heck, I don't intend to leave the house for the most part! Hubby will also have limited exposure since he's no longer travelling much until after the holidays.
There's just too much conflicting information out there for me to be comfortable with it. My doc is fine with me skipping both shots, too.
I am an ICU nurse so I know that I will be exposed to both, so I will have to receive both shots. I have my regular flu shot in my fridge, just waiting to give it. All three of my kids and DH will get them both too!
We are already seeing H1N1 cases at our elementary school. Scary!
At first I was very much against getting the H1N1 shot, but my dr. presented me with an excellent reason to get it. It passes on the immunity to my fetus. If a newborn gets the flu (either one) it quickly becomes a critical situation--newborns under 6 months can't be vaccinated and there's very little that can be done for them once they get the flu. Dr. said it would be an instant admit to the hospital NICU/ICU for probably at least a week. It's a tough decision, but his arguement did sway me. I will be getting the thimerisol-free version whenever it becomes available, for both versions of the flu.
I will get the regular flu shot once I am 8 weeks. I am not planning on the H1N1 shot.
My DD is getting the regualr flu shot but not H1N1
This exactly.
I will be getting both.

No to both. I got the flu shot for the first time in my life in October '07 when I was pregnant with DS. Two days before I was due to deliver I got the flu - 103 temperature, coughs that racked my whole body while I as trying to push. Um yeah, the flu shot didn't really help in that instance. I asked the doctor about it afterward and she said the shot that year didn't match the strain that actually went around that season.
You could argue it either way - maybe the strains will match this year or maybe they won't. In any case, I'm just not interested. And as a reference, I've done all other shots for my DS except the flu and chicken pox (which I'm delaying until he's 2-3) so I'm not anti-vaccine.
