do you sterilize new pacifiers?

We just started giving DS a pacifier, and DH gave it to him the first time, so I didn't look at the packaging.  I bought a couple new ones and see now that it's recommended on the package that you sterilize in boiling water before first use.

I did do that with my breast pump parts, but does anyone bother to do it with new pacifiers?

Re: do you sterilize new pacifiers?

  • Yes and No. Yes when I have the time or ability to but once we were out and I forgot a paci at home, he was throwing a fit at a store they had his kind of paci so I ripped open a box and gave him one, I didn't even pay for it first let alone take the time to sterilize it.

  • Nope. I do sterilize bottles when they're new and pump parts once a week, but I've never sterilized H's pacis.
  • Some of the pacis don't have sterilization instructions, but instead just have instructions to wash before use.  I just generally go by whatever is on the package.

  • I wash and sterilize them before first use - and every night thereafter.  I use Medela microwave steam bags to sterilize paci's and nipples - quick and easy (no waiting around for water to boil!)

  • I just wash them with hot, soapy water.  Same with new bottles.
  • yes, we sterilize before first use then soap and warm water for cleanings after that.
  • Yes, I boil them before the 1st use.  I put them in the sterilizer almost every night since they go with DD to daycare.

  • I do the first time (boil for 5 minutes).  After that I just wash them with her bottles in hot, soapy water.
