Preemies

Which age would you base starting solids on?

My baby was born exactly one month early. Would you base starting solids on his actual or adjusted age. I would think adjusted but my pedi said to start solids sometime within the next month. What do you girls think?

Re: Which age would you base starting solids on?

  • The neonatalogist told us to start at 6 months adjusted 3 months actual!

  • If your baby is big, then go ahead and start.  We started my son very early at 2.5 months because he was already 15 lbs.  My daughter at almost 6 months (5 months adj) is just about 13 lbs and is just starting cereal and not really ready for it.

  • Adjusted age has been the consistent answer for us.  We just started cereal this week, and Zoey is just over 8 months old (actual), but her adjusted age is not quite 5 months.  I think it is important to follow the cues that the baby gives you, too.  We are going slow, but who cares, right?  :)

  • He is a big baby, about 16 lbs. I am thinking about waiting till he is 5 months (4 months adj) and start then. Thanks for the reply's.
