i'm nervous

I have an appt with the perinatologist for 10/16 and this is for the screening for downs and spina bifida, i'm scared and nervous of what is going to happen, all i want is a healthy baby..........i'm venting anyone knows what happens on these appts? Had a dream last night that the DR said i am having a healthy baby......someone said to me that means the opposite! I'm soooo nervous about to jump out of my skin!

Don't worry. The odds are very much in your favor that your baby is healthy and well.

The pernatologist will talk to you, ask a bit about your health and db, probably take a quick peek at baby with an ultrasound (cool and fun for you), and maybe take some bloodwork for testing.

I thought those dreams were all about baby's sex - that if you dream boy, it means girl irl, and vice versa..

Is this your NT scan?

It's easy and painless, and you get a nice ultrasound session out of it!  They do an anatomy check, and take some measurements.  They key measurement is the pocket of fluid on the back of the baby's neck, which can be larger if the baby has a genetic issue.  They can give estimations based on just the measurements, or estimations based on the measurements plus bloodwork.

Unfortunately, the NT scan is not diagnostic, it can just give you probabilities.  If the measurements are all good, the doctor will probably tell you not to worry about getting a more invasive test.  If the results show a risk, then he may recommend an amnio, since that gives real answers.

My results were okay, but I still opted to get the amnio just to ease my mind.  I'm just a need-to-know kind of person.
