Pregnant after a Loss

flying while pregnant

Just wondering if any of you have traveled while pregnant?  I am hoping that I get pregnant in November (fingers crossed).....We were thinking about going to San Francisco from Boston in February....wondering if there is anything that says we should not fly.  Thank you!

Re: flying while pregnant

  • If everything is progressing normally with your pregnancy you should be ok, it's something you would need to check with your doctor.

  • As long as everything's going normally and you have no history of blood clots they'll usually clear you to fly until at least 30 weeks. I was pulled from flying this week at 23 weeks but I had a DVT 2 years ago.

I'd buy travel insurance just in case you're unable to go but you should be fine.

  • I'm taking a 1-hr flight this weekend at 31 weeks. My doctor just gave me a note and a copy of my records

  • I flew at 12 weeks and the only thing they told me was to get up one time per hour of flight and walk around so no clotting happens. I had a bad experience with flying while pregnant. See siggy. So I personally will never do it again. But they will tell you that you can fly up to about 30 weeks. GL getting pregnant!
  • My ob cleared me to fly up until 6 months. Anything beyond that I would have to make it short car rides.

We flew to Aruba when I was 16-17 wks pg and I did fine. The one thing I had to do (per ob) was get up alot and walk around. I got alot of weird looks since at 16-17 wks I wasn't really showing. I think people thought I was just antsy.

  • My OB has OK'd me to fly at 32 weeks as long as I have no complications at the time - I'll be on an 8 hr international flight.
  • I flew at 8 and 9 weeks, no problems.  I was also told to get up and walk around.  I will fly again at 22 and 23 weeks.  Hoping to get the H1N1 shot before then.  Lots of people in confined spaces without circulating air scares me a bit.  And I really don't want to be sick on my trip.

    Good luck TTC!

  • I have flown a lot during this pregnancy, even doing a transatlantic flights at 24 wks and 27 wks. My last flight was at 29 wks.

I always checked with my OB that I was healthy to fly first.

    Good luck with your bfp!

  • Everything has been good with my pregnancy so my doc said flying was fine.  I flew in August when I was 24 weeks pregnant.  Everything was fine!  It was a 2 1/2 hour flight and my doc said I had to get up and walk every half hour but I pretty much had to use the bathroom that often anyway, so it worked out ok.

  • I'm doing a bunch of flying in the next few weeks. I leave for Boston in two weeks and then heading home to California in 1 month. I think they usually ground you at 32 weeks.

  • I flew form DC to Boston at 20 weeks and everything was fine. Check with your doctor, once you are pregnant.
