Nap Strike Advice?

Hi Everyone,

My DD is 3 1/2 months and has been napping 2-3 times a day since she was 6 weeks old.  She generally sleeps for 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a time.  In the past 3 days she has been going down, but waking up 1/2 hour into the nap and refusing to go back to sleep no matter what I do.  As a result, she's exhausted.  It's so clear she needs more sleep, but I'm not sure how to help her.  Her night sleep is still the same and is great.  We co-sleep (bed-share) at night but for naps she has only ever been willing to sleep in her swing (swaddled with static white noise).  Is it time for a new sleep venue, maybe?  Is this the dreaded "four month wakeful?"  I'm at a loss and hope someone might have a similar experience and some suggestions.  Thanks!

Re: Nap Strike Advice?

  • I think this is a common thing at this age. My DS started doing this right at the 3 month mark & still fights naps & nighttime sleep most days now.

I'm curious about the responses you get since we're in the same boat.

  • Unfortunately, this sounds very normal.  At about that age, babies really start to 'wake up' and want to be involved in everything and sleep becomes no fun for them.  I would try some different things in terms of napping and see if that makes a difference - sleeping in the crib or the stroller for example.  That and just being consistent and knowing that things will get better are really all I have to recommend.  We had a rough few months of napping from 4-6 months.  Then DS started crawling and tired himself out a lot more and naps got better again.
