**Joy**

How often do you get to work from home? I do 4 days in the office and then on friday mornings I work from home for 4.5 hours and then am off in the afternoon. I love it as it cuts down on one commute day for me. My  mom watches the kids for me and then DH gets home from work and he takes over.

Re: **Joy**

  • Hi! I work from home on Tuesdays.  When I went back to work, BDs daycare could not take him on Tuesdays, so that's how it started.  DH is home on Thursdays, so BD goes to school MWF 7:30-4:30.

I have no family nearby, so some Tuesdays are very hard to get anything done, but I manage.  DH doesn't get home until 10pm :(    It's a long, difficult day, but it's nice not driving into Boston and by the afternoon, I can spend quality time with my son.

I am actually considering asking my boss to work from home exclusively - coming into town only when necessary.  I'd still keep BD in school MWF as he loves school and they do a better job than I can.   The extra time would allow me to help DH's business.    I'm very conflicted about how this would change family dynamics however....

  • That's a long commute for you!!!  I work in Brookline (just outside Kenmore Square) and live about 30 minutes from Boston.  I wish I could do more at home but I don't think my bosses would go for it. The one day definitely helps me alot though!!

I am disciplined enough to work from home but it can be a challenge. I need to have someone there for the kids otherwise I would be doing my work on the weekend. Truthfully, as long as I have a computer, phone and fax, I can do my job just fine. With snow I will sometimes prepare and take files home with me.

Are you in downtown boston? when I was in law school (I went to Suffolk) I worked on Tremont Street - loved it. We have an office there.  Close to the shops and it was just a fun atmosphere (the office and the surroundings)

  • You are lucky to have your mom close.  I know I couldn't do it with more than 1 kid.

Hey, I went to Suffolk Business School!  Class of '00.    My office is on Newbury and I love the area, which is why I am conflicted - I hate the commute, but I love the city once I am here.   I'm responsible for the computer systems at 7 locations (one on Comm Ave) so I float around town some days.  I love my job and the company, so I want to work something out where I can kickass at both my job and my family.  I'm sure I would end up coming into town 1 day/week - which would be ideal, really.   As I sit in my office now - watching a server update and researching a software upgrade - I know I could've done this at home and saved myself 2.5 hrs of commuting today. er.

  • It's a tough balance - that's for sure! I love what I do and I know I would not be a good stay at home mom!! I am very lucky. My mom helps us out ALOT!

Oh that's too funny about Suffolk!

Newbury is nice too!!! We actually just stayed at the Copley Marriott on saturday night for our anniversary and had dinner at Morton's. Ever been? It's expensive but sooooo good!!

We should meet for lunch sometime!

  • mmmmmmm, mortons.  I'd love to meet for lunch. My schedule is tough though... I leave the city by 3 to go home, workout and pick BD up by 5.   If I can get out of work at lunchtime, it would be a miracle!  haha!     I go to Healthworks in BK - I could try to meet you there sometime :)

  • I'd leave at 3 if I had your commute too!!! : )

I leave at 4:30 so I can avoid some of the traffic!

We should connect at some point - that would be fun!
