Actually, there was a MoM in my StrollerFit class whose girls were both 8 lbs when they were born. Of course, her doc let them go to 40w, which I don't think most docs do.
I know there are least a couple 7 pounders on the board.

My friend told me a guy she knows is a twin, and he said him and his brother weighed 9 lbs at birth! I have no idea if this is true or not, it's not someone my friend knows well
We have friends who recently had twins that were @ 7.5 lbs each (at 37 weeks).
We found out about our own twins shortly after that. After hearing about and reading some of Dr. Luke's book, I assumed the mom had followed her diet plan/guidelines so I asked her about it... it turns out she never read it.
There's a MoM on this board whose twins were each just under 9 lbs. We have a number of 7 to 8-pounders on here. (Mine were bigger than average for twins but nothing remarkable; 6.10 and 6.7.)
Mine were 6lb15 3/4oz and 7lb 3 oz. They were my pedi and OB's second largest set of twins. For the pedi the other twins were 7 and 9lb 2oz. Not sure about OB.
forgot to add- people who had huge twins 20+ years ago can't really compare... back then, many moms didn't even know they were pg with twins because ultrasounds were not as common... so they were allowed to go to 39/40w... that is rare these days. There are some docs who will have you go to 39w, but the majority say 38w is the latest with twins that is healthy/safe.
My girls were born at 34.4 weeks and weighed in at 6.1lbs each. The Dr said if I had made it to my schedule date of 37 weeks they could have been 8lbers. They are still big girls at 4 mths they weighed in at ~16lbs in the 92% for their actual age!

A friend of my moms (the twins are a few years younger than me) had 9lb twins. She was HUGE and so were they!
My itty bitty girls were only 4lbs 8.5 oz.

I was a week early and 10 lbs 2 oz.
My brothers (twins) were 6 weeks early and 7.5 lbs each.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
My singleton was 7 lbs 4 oz & 20 inches long
My twins were 6 lbs 9 oz, 19.5 inches & 7 lbs 9 oz & 20 inches long.
I had the babies at 38 weeks - If I had gone to full 40 they would have most likely been a pound more each.
My twin b was bigger then my singelton.
During delivery of twin b my doctor said Wow this is a big baby, big twin.
For me my twins were the biggest - everyone else that I know who had twins or had friends that had twins were always under like 5 pounds.
one of my twins was just .4oz away from being 8lbs... he was 7lb 15.6oz (i don't know why they didn't round up!)
The other twin was 6lb 6oz. They were born at 38w1d.
My singleton was 7lb 4oz, but he was 4 weeks early - they say he would have been around 9lbs if I went to term with him.
So yes, it's possible to have 8lb twins - rare- but possible, if you tend to carry large babies, and you go to term.
Btw, to the OP: You may have already heard this statistic, but the average birth weight for twins is 5 lbs 6 oz IIRC.
