is everyone getting a glider?

I was thinking of not getting one and just having a regular chair. WDYT? Are they very expensive?

Re: is everyone getting a glider?

  • Personally I can't imagine not having a glider. When I was a nanny we used the glider multiple times a day until she was almost 3. Most babies love rocking, it is soothing for them. You can find gliders in all different price ranges.

  • I have an upholstered rocker.  I wouldn't have gotten a non-moving chair, I think most of it is for the baby, not for me.  They love the rocking motion.
  • I don't like gliders, not very comfortable for me. . I'm getting a lazyboy, still rocks and get the job done in comfort.
  • A glider is not needed. I had one with my first daughter and NEVER used it. I think only twice she was rocked in it. I didn't like nursing in it either.

  • I'm just getting a rocking chair from Ikea. Its not that expensive compared to what's around.

That's Canadian too so I would say the American prices would be lower.

Yup.  We got a Lazyboy.  It's the bomb!

  • For our first DS we recovered a recliner that didn't fit anywhere else in the house.  I rarely sat in it.  This time we repainted a rocker we already had and made a cushion for on top.  It's comfortable enough, but I spent more time rocking out in the living room on our recliner or laying in bed (to nurse).
  • There are some overstuffed chair gliders at Walmart.com that I like much more than the wooden ones.

    this for me too!
  • Check on Criagslist if your interested in getting a glider.  I just found a Duatailier (sp?) glider and ottoman on there in perfect condition for $75.
  • BRU is currently having a sale - 15% off all gliders and ottomans (excluding special orders.)  We just ordered ours and saved a big chunk of money with the 15% off.

  • I ordered an upholstered rocker from walmart...chair and slipcover were around $200 with tax and shipping.
  • I LOVE my Best Chairs glider!  It's not a "need", there's a lot you can get by without, but I'm so happy we got ours when I was pg with DS and still use it, when we're done rocking babies, it'll go in our living room.
  • I just ordered the Best Quinn glider with ottoman and it was about $750 for both. It's sooo comfy! I'm sure I'll be spending lots of time in it. One of my friends has one as said she slept in it for the last few weeks of her pregnancy since she couldn't get comfortable anywhere else.

I was at BRU the other day and noticed that they had lots of gliders on sale. You could check that out if you think you might want one. Otherwise, I would just go with a comfy chair.

For the nursery at my mom's house she's using an antique wooden rocking chair. If you're looking to save some money, you could check craigslist or local tag sales for one.
