Curious if anyone else has a maximum they will spend on each piece of clothes at a consignment store? For example, for a t-shirt the max I will spend is $3.50 due to for anything more I can usually buy a brand new shirt for the same cost. I have a certain price I will go up to on basically all articles of clothes.
Re: Consignment Stores, do you have a maximum you will spend?
Depends on condition but 3.50 is sort of it too. I mean, I bought 5 polo shirts brand new from The Children's Place for 10 bucks. I am not going to spend 8 bucks on some pre-loved t shirt.
I was at one yesterday looking at a few things, there were boys winter boots for 8 bucks. I can get new ones for 12.
I don't really go to consignments shops only for the money-saving aspect. I just like to reduce how much 'new product' I buy for my family. I prefer decent-quality second hand things over new purchases whenever it's possible. I would say the majority of my kids clothing is purchased second-hand, and some of mine - although it's harder to find a good fit for adults.
We sell on consignment and places like craigslist, freecycle, and Kijiji as much as possible, and we try to do a lot of our buying in that way too. I'm picky with what I buy, but I feel better if we're not constantly buying new products.
This is what I will spend on each item too. And $4-$5 for a 2-3 piece outfit.
