Pregnant after 35

NBR: This is so exciting!

On Oct 18th it?ll be 8 years since my mom passed away.  I think of her a lot especially this time of year.  I thought about a cookbook (that my dad still has) that she used all the time.  It was a Betty Crocker cookbook with a ?pie chart? on the cover.  I remember she made the most delicious chocolate chip cookies and used a recipe from that cookbook.  I told my DH that I would love to have that for my birthday that?s coming up.  The Red Cross was having their annual book sale starting today so I asked him to look for it.  He found it!!!!!

I?m so excited.  I know one day I?ll probably get the one my mom actually used but until then it will be so nice to have something that can remind me of her on a daily basis.

Let me go cry now. LOL.

  • my birthday is coming up too.  you could make me cookies!  :)
  • Awe....this May it was 3 years since my mom passed.  My mom was a fabulous cook and the year she passed all of us kids (5 of us) went through all of our favorite recipes of hers and my sister found a website where you can create your own cookbook - and include photos as well.  I think it's primarily used for fundraising for organizations, but between the 5 of us we all ordered multiple copies so it came out to around $37 per copy.  Every time I make one of "her" recipes, it always makes me feel more connected to her....

Enjoy those cookies! (I'm gonna go cry now too!)

  • I've got goose bumps. What happy memories :-)
  • Yay, Shannon's making cookies!

That is great. You'll be able to recreate some of the smells from your kitchen as child, that will really bring back the memories.

  • I'm so happy for you!  I'm gonna go cry now too.  Crying

  • All of you are so sweet!

I'm looking at my "new" cookbook right now.  It's amazing because even though it's not my mom's copy it smells exactly like I remember.  This cookbook is a 1974 edition.  It's 35 years old! :)

It's actually really hard to find and would run over $50 if we tried to buy it!

    I love it!! :)

  • It is so great that you will have such a wonderful and useful reminder of your mom!

    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • My mom passed away almost 15 years ago and while I miss her every day, I also think of her a little more this time of year because we used to do so much cooking and baking together over the holidays.  Dad gave me all of her cookbooks and recipes and I treasure them.  I make some of the same recipes for DH that she used to make for me and Dad for dinner...and for the holidays, I bake a lot of the same cookies, bars, and cakes that she baked with me.  I can't wait to share that experience with our child!

I'm so glad you got the cookbook you were seeking.  Delicious chocolate chip cookies will taste even better with those happy memories of your mom!!!

  • Wow, that is a treasure, Shannon! What a wonderful gift from your sweet DH. (hey, the cookbook is AMA too..hee hee)
