I know I've asked about this one before, but I didn't get too many responses, so I thought I'd try again.

For some reason, this name keeps coming back to me. What do you think of it? Does it sound ok with Sophie? What middle names might go with Alba?

I definitely like the name (although I admit I do immediately think of Jessica Alba, ugh) and I think it goes well with Sophie.

this is strictly a lastname, IMO. i guess if you're hispanic, then it would kinda go, but otherwise, i don't like it.

Isn't that the name of the girl in The Time Traveler's Wife? Like it. Also similar to Alma.

I prefer Alma to Alba, but it's ok. I don't think of it strictly as a last name, but maybe it's because I am Hispanic? Besides the character in The Time Traveler's Wife, one of the characters in The House of the Spirits is named this. And the Cuban pop singer Albita (whose last name I don't know b/c she is like Madonna in that she doesn't use it professionally).

If you're the same person who asked about this name on this board a few weeks ago, then I've already told you all of this (sorry).

What does Alba mean?

For me, the meaning of a name changes everything. Without knowing the meaning it's nms mostly because it immediately reminds me of Jessica Alba.

One poster suggested Alma and I LOVE the name Alma...which is a Turkish name and means Apple.

Alba means "dawn" in Spanish. Don't know about other languages. Alma means "soul" in Spanish.

Not a big fan, i don't think it sounds pretty at all. I honestly can't imagine Sophie and Alba being sisters in the same family, they sound so ethnically different, it's like having boys named Juan and Christopher, not unheard of but unexpected, in a bad way.

Sorry, just being honest, I'm not a fan, and I think they sound silly together

I was curious what it meant, too, and on babynames.com it says:

The first and only time I heard this name was when reading "The Time Traverler's Wife." I just thought it was such an odd name and I could not get past thinking of Jessica Alba. Sorry.

My Husband works with a man who's wife is named Alba. ( I am pretty sure she is Italian) I had never heard it before but think it is very pretty and it really suits her. If you are not 100% sure you could always use it as a middle name? Otherwise i think names like Grace, joy, faith go with Alba. As for it being a surname lots of first names are also surnames ie: James, Cooper, Kelly,Jackson, Grace.
