Oregon Babies

Daycare recs.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice in-home daycare?  I am in NE Portland but am willing to travel if needed.  Just not to the West side.

Please, no centers.  Only small in-home daycares please.

The person I was going to use is not available so I am back to square one.

  • Have you thought of doing a nanny-share?  A guy at work was telling me that he and his wife do this with another family and it works out pretty well for them.  Another gal at work was doing it with her son until he started preschool and the preschool he goes to is all day.

  • I found my in-home provider on craigslist.  At first I thought "um, no, I'm not going to use craigslist, they're all crazies!" but I did end up interviewing 3 people and really liked 2 of them, so I am now going to reccomend that you look on CL.  Good infant care is so hard to find, and there's some great people on CL.  Nanny shares are great if you can find them, but I couldn't find anything close to my house that worked with my part time work schedule.

I am absolutely THRILLED with my in home daycare, but she's really close to Clackamas Mall, I think that would be too far for you.  If you want her info anyway, send me a PM and I'll share with you!

Best of luck in your search!!

I've been looking on CL a lot too.. and have found a LOT of in home providers.  One is even walking distance to our house.. but... they wont work for us for personal reasons :D

Hopefully we find the right person when we figure out if we're going to move before baby is born or not :D

  • Hey Jen,

I live on 7th and Freemont and will also be looking for a part time nanny.  I will need her maybe twice a week only if that, or part time of two days, mornings or nights.  I am at 18 weeks so we are close on our schedule.  Just thought I would throw that out there.  Let me know if you would like to meet up and chat more about this.

  • I just drove by one in Sullivan's Gultch on my way to Grandma's Place (the only place I could find to do drop off care for non potty trained kids).  I don't remember the name but I think it was on Wasco or Clackamas between 20th & 16th.  It was a nice large house on the corner and on the SW corner of the intersection.  Sorry I can't be more specific :)
