Okay so how does this happen? ?The swelling underneath the toenail is getting pretty bad and it seems like (this is grosssssssssssss) that the cuticle is starting to pull away with the swelling. ?Is that how losing the toenail starts? ?

It is so disgusting, I really cant' stand to have this toe attached to my body right now. ?

Yes.  DD just had hers fall off and that's exactly what happened.  Thankfully it was only 1/2 way down.

OMG, what a day you're having!  I just read your last post about moving the wardrobe box.  Please relax and pamper yourself for a few days! 

I've never lost a toenail, so can't help you there, but at least sandal season is almost over, right?

If you want it off and want to make sure it grows back right you can have the podiatrist take the nail off the right way.

SBDC--I've never had a toe nail fall off.  sounds disgusting...good luck with pedicures next summer.

Abay, yes! This is going to be one butt-ugly foot when all is said and done. ?I'm glad I moved to a place where I can start wearing regular shoes immediately!?

I haven't off the couch since the wardrobe box beat me up and I have no intention of looking at another box today. ?LOL

I have no doubt I'll make it, Mattslady, but I certainly hope some day a heavy plate falls on your toe, makes it swell up to twice its size, turns it black and blue and painful enough that vicodin barely touches the pain. That would make me truly happy right about now. ?:-) ?You never really notice how important your big toe is until it's mangled. ?

Yes, Summer.  Yours are the only posts I ever read on the Nest.  I'm a stalker.  You're life of trips to Starbucks (where you will inevitably leave with something to complain about) and feeling sorry for yourself about your kid not going to bed when you want him to or eating what and when you want him to or something of the like is just sooooo interesting.  Really.  You should write a book.

If it is swollen underneath the toenail, are you sure it doesn't need drilled to relieve the pressure?  That could be what is causing so much pain is the built up pressure.

Amanda, the doctor at urgent care did that, but the blood was all clotted, so none of it came out and none of the pressure was relieved. ?Ugh. ?So now I've got the pressure and pain AND a hole in my toenail. ?puke.?
