Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

When do they drop to one nap a day?

I know all babies are different, but what is typical or average? DD has been really fighting her afternoon nap lately and yesterday she skipped it altogether. She is 12 months.

Re: When do they drop to one nap a day?

  • Right around 12 months he dropped to one. ?Maybe twice a week he gets two naps if he's really worn out.?

  • 12 months for us. It was helped along by the fact that her new daycare room is on a 1 nap schedule .
  • DD went back and forth between 14 months and 17 months, and then finally dropped to one nap a day consistently right around 17 months.

  • 11 months for my DD.  My friend's DS is 17 months and still takes 2 naps a day.  For your post, sounds like she is ready for the transition.

  • Ben dropped to one nap @ 14 months and we had 2 solid months of that.  Then all of a sudden at 16 months, he started alternating between one nap and two.  He did that for 3-4 weeks and then went back to one nap.  I'm pretty sure it's for good this time.
  • DD dropped her morning nap at around 12 months. She took a week or two to transition though. It sounds like your DD may be ready for one nap.
  • Colin has started fighting his afternoon nap too.  But his morning nap is still only 35-45 minutes, unless I lay with him.  So hopefully that nap will start to stretch out and we can drop the second one.
  • She went to one nap a day between 15 and 16 months.  She goes down for her nap between 12:00 and 1:00.

  • My little guy did it about 13 months. I started watching an 18 month old who takes 1 nap and he kinda transitioned himself. I really wasn't expecting it since we were doing good with the two naps. He still will sometimes need two naps on the weekends when he doesn't have quite as much stimulation. I have to say I am loving the one nap thing though because sometimes he will sleep as much as 2 1/2- 3 hours at a time and we were doing 45 minutes twice a day before. He averages 1 1/2 but every now and then it goes longer! :)
  • DD is in the process of it.  She's 11.5 months.  Some days it's 2 naps, some it's 1.  I just try to follow her lead and it really depends on how long the first nap is.
  • DS dropped his 2nd nap about a month ago.
