Anyones lo on liquid zantac?

I posted on 0-6 yesterday with very few answers.

Was wondering if anyones lo had side effects? Do you know approximately how long they lasted?

Dd started hers on sunday and since monday has had diahrrea to the extent of 4-5 diapers a day and now her bottom is raw! She has been screaming during diaper changes, and usually she is cooing up a storm. Not to mention I don't want her to get dehydrated.

I put in a call to the pedi, but they are on lunch break and will call me back.

It could be coincidence--any other issues going on?  Is she on antibiotics?  Teething?

DS was on Zantac for a few months---and that did not occur.  Def see what the pedi says.

DS took zantac and didn't have any issues from it, but he did have issues when he was on Alimentum formula (we started the alimentum after the zantac) - constant blow out diapers whenever he had a bottle.  GL!

I would think it is a coincidence.  Zantac is an acid reducer. As far as I know, stomach cramping, diarrhea and nausea are not a side effect of the acid reducers.  The other class of reflux meds- PPIs (Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium) have this side effect.  DS was on Prilosec and started having massive poop issues.  We tried a switch to Pepcid and it didn't touch his reflux issues or help the poop really.  We are now on Nexium and it seems enough chemically different that it isn't affecting his poop and his reflux is fairly well controlled.

She is teething, I guess it could be a coincidence. However, it did list diahrrea and upset stomach as side effects.

Still waiting for the pedi.

It's been a while since DS was on Zantac but diarrhea for the first few days actually seems familiar to me. He wasn't on Zantac but a few months before we moved to Prevacid which by the way, that worked like a champ.

This. DD2 was on zantac for a couple weeks and it wasn't doing the trick. Prevacid is sent from heaven She had some wild poop for the first like 2 days when she started the zantac though. Rinse your LO's hiney in the sink after she is cleaned up so you can be super sure to get all the acid off and it will also rinse off the soap from the wipes, that can sometimes make a rash worse
