Help--if your DC on allergy meds or just has allergies...

BACKGROUND:  DS had tests and it came back he's allergic to wheat/gluten, milk, soy, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts and cats.  We have a cat still in the house--which we think we have to remove shortly but have changed DS's diet and he's not getting anything he's allergic to (allergens that we know about at least)

But he seems to be having a lot of ear issues and a lot of nasal stuffiness.  He was a VERY stuffy baby starting last October and didn't really end until May or so after he was put on antibiotics for his second ear infection and possible sinus infection.  He was just on another course of antibiotics a few weeks ago b/c of an almost double ear infection.

THE NOW:  He's now stuffy again and he was up all night and really playing with his ears.  Sure, it could be molars...his gums have been very inflamed for about 2 months now.  But I'm thinking maybe his ears hurt from the stuffiness (I know how I feel when I get allergies).

So I'm curious if your DC is on meds--which ones, what dosage and how is it working for them.  Any side effects??  Also--what caused you to go on them (ear issues, stuffiness, eye redness, etc)?

I'm thinking of going to the pedi just to get his ears checked and maybe try the meds.....BUT what concerns me is his allergist never mentioned meds.  When I mentioned shots she said nothing until he's 6!!!  WTF?!  I'm thinking maybe a second opinion but pediatric allergists around my area are slim pickings.

So wanted to see what your experience has been.....THANKS ALL!

  • DD appears to have seasonal allergies (per pedi - we haven't done testing, but her symptoms started at the beginning of ragweed season, same as mine) and is taking Zyrtec.  It's helped immensely!  Her allergies started with itchy/watery/runny eyes, runny nose, & sneezing.  She takes 3/8 of a teaspoon 1x per day.

Hope you find something that helps your DS!

That is so interesting b/c our allergist said kids their age can't have seasonal allergies--which I thought was complete BS considering he had the same issues as I did.  So kind of glad to hear that is just a falicy.

Jays-n-shane---do you live in the south burbs?  I'm super far south (New Lenox area) --just curious what area you were from--it says "south chicago"
