Anyone's LO ever have Mono?

Our DCP has Mono; diagnosed Saturday, but has had symptoms for two plus weeks.  I've read the symptoms for babies are less severe and similar to those of a cold.  DD has been acting clingier, more tired, eating less, coughing and her voice is scratchy.  I called her Pedi, spoke with a NP, and was told there was not much benefit in testing since there is no treatment.  My only argument is that I want to know if she has it.

So, anyone's LO ever been diagnosed with Mono?  If so, what were the symptoms?  TIA!!

Re: Anyone's LO ever have Mono?

  • Are her lymph nodes swollen? That's one of the big tell-tale signs. Mono makes you sleep A LOT. If I had to pick between childbirth and mono, I'd pick childbirth. Mono was miserable.... it was not unusual for me to sleep 20 hours a day.

It's a simple blood test. I'd want to know because there's a risk of your spleen rupturing with mono if it's impacted or whatever.

And if it is mono, I'd question why your DCP is swapping spit with your child.

Honestly I have no idea about her lymph nodes; I've never felt them b/f now (to my knowledge).

I know its a simple blood test, which is why I don't understand why my Pedi doesn't want to run the test; maybe I'll call again and actually speak to my direct Pedi.

I have no idea why DCP and DD would be swapping spit, but it can be contracted just through close quarters too.  DCP has 4 of her own children in the home plus DD.  Who knows what fluids are in and around the furniture.  LOL.

  • Not LO but I had it when I was 18 and coincidentally working at a daycare.  It was awful!!  Lymph nodes swelling was the worst they looked like goose eggs in my neck, horrible sore throat, vomiting, had a fever on and off for days, slept ALOT and it took me a total of like 6 weeks to fully recover.  I hope its not that bad in children and I would just see if they can test her anyway if she's acting like she deosn't feel well.

Its transmitted other than just "kissing".  I had a boyfriend when I had it and he never got sick.
