Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Crap. That was a bad idea.

I got K one of those LED Circo night lights (the squishy ones) today because he seems to be getting restless at bedtime now and I thought maybe he's becoming afraid of the dark. (?? Really grasping here, I know, but I shudder to think of re-feberizing at this age.)

I charged it all day and introduced it to him just before bedtime. He was, of course, enamored. So I set it on his windowsill and went to put him to bed. Tragic. He wanted to hold the light. No, no, that can't happen. It already says on the instructions inside the box that it's not intended for under 8 years because of small parts inside, and he was chewing on it already, so no. He can't sleep *with* it. Now he is in there doing the "you're a terrible, mean mommy" cry.

I guess if he keeps crying I'll just go in there and take it out so it's not taunting him all night.

  • Sorry, but I find it cute that your DD wants to cuddle with the night light!  Good luck.

  • Lili has one of those - the mushroom. I let her pet it before she goes to bed and we say 'night night' to it before I tuck her in. I also put it down on the floor near her crib so she can wave at it. That seems to be working. She too wanted to take it to bed and chew on it before I started this.
  • i almost bought one of those (thanks to whichever nestie posted about it).

instead, we got a cheap LED plug in nightlight from riteaid.  it turned out to be blue (weird) but dd loves it.  she wants to touch it all the time.  and it doesn't get hot so we let her.

You are the one who inspired me :) Do you find that yours is hard to charge? I really have to work to get the cord plugged in just right to get it to charge.

No, it fits perfectly. Which shape do you have? Could be because of that.

I love this night light. My other one had weird plastic that MELTED on to the light bulb. I about had a heart attack when I saw that in the morning.

  • It's the blue birdie. It also makes some noise when you shake it like something might be loose inside. I'm sort of tempted to take it back tomorrow, maybe see if another one works better.
  • I would just take it back period if he wants it so badly it could distract him from sleeping.

Did you ever have the baby crack machine?  Its projection feature could help you, although I stopped using ours when I found it was actually nudging DS awake (and staying awake) when he had normal quick wakings in the middle of the night.

I got the blue bird, too (thanks to Kel's post about them) and it wouldn't charge without me practically holding in there with some force! (It flickered/faded) I finally got it to charge and it lasted a few days but I ended up taking it back because you could actually hear something shake inside. I just figured ours was a lemon. I loved it though!

Maybe it's the design on the little blue bird?

  • The boys have those ones that look like mini people they love them they cuddle theirs too and have since they were 6. That is cute she wants to cuddle it.
  • abr, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

Vanilla, yeah, that's a good point. We do have the BCM and still use it all the time, but the projection stopped spinning months ago so we stopped using that. Who knows, he probably doesn't even *need* a night light. Oh well.

  • So... here's the deal with small parts warnings. They are on EVERYTHING. I mean it. Stuff that DOES NOT HAVE SMALL PARTS. I die everytime I see a pack of pencils with that warning. What does it even mean to the consumer anymore?

Do you have a link to the item on Target.com? I'd love to see what this thing is...

  • Ok....I have to check these out now.  What section in Target did you find them? Near the Kid's rooms stuff?

Our projector spins really randomly, but mostly doesn't either. But I still use it so I have a little light for nursing and I keep it pointed in the opposite corner so it just adds a little glow, but not the full on picture above the crib. It just acts like a night light would and it has never kept him awake that I know of.
