Babies on the Brain

When you thought/think of....

...the name you will give your little one, do you think about the future and if they will like it and what it will sound like when they are an adult? I really like the name Ella Brianne, but my DH doesn't think he likes the name Ella on an adult.  What do you ladies think?

Re: When you thought/think of....

  • I definitely think about it being a good "baby/kid" name and it being a good adult name too.

My Niece's name is Ella.  I think the name is OK, but if your DH doesn't like I would just move on and find one you both agree on.

  • I agree with Fred.  It's a cute nickname.

  • I don't mind it as a nickname, I guess I just always thought that if given a nickname as a kid (other than say, porky) it would stick with you.  My name doesn't have room for a nickname so I don't really know.
  • We definitely did this! We wanted a name that could have a nickname but the long name would also be appropriate for an adult. Our baby will be Jacob but we will most likely call him Jake. He can make the decision of what to be called when he is older.

I don't think Ella sounds like an adult name, but it is a great nickname!

  • At some point in time, all children "hate" their name.  I thought mine was too common, and went around as "aka initial" my whole childhood.

I picked something more classic but less common for DD.  It has one nickname I swore up and down I would never call her or let her be called.  Guess what nickname she decided she wanted when she turned 12? I am still hoping it passes, but in the end, your LO will make her name, and her life, into whatever she chooses.

(She could always choose to go by Brianne as an adult)
